OWU Women’s Basketball Falls in NCAA Third Round 3/14/2025 8:20:00 PM Share: BLOOMINGTON, IL – No. 16/18-nationally ranked Ohio Wesleyan (25-4) fell 68-65 to No. 7/10 Baldwin Wallace (29-1) in the third round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets now advance into the quarterfinal round and will face the winner of tonight’s third-round matchup between No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan (28-1) and No. 11/13 Wisconsin-Oshkosh (25-4). The quarterfinal will be played at 8:30 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, March 15, at Illinois Wesleyan University. The winner of Saturday's national quarterfinal game will compete in the national semifinals, which is scheduled to be played on Friday, March 20, in Salem, Virginia. BALDWIN WALLACE (29-1) 68, OHIO WESLEYAN (25-4) 65 With the score knotted at 6-all just 3:48 into the first quarter, Baldwin Wallace used a 6-0 and 5-0 run to take the largest lead of the quarter, a 17-9 advantage, with 1:52 remaining. The Yellow Jackets ended the first frame up 21-15. The two teams continued to trade baskets through the second quarter, however Baldwin Wallace took the biggest lead of the game, 37-27, with 1:14 remaining and entered the locker room with a 39-31 lead. OWU used a 13-2 run in the first five minutes of the third quarter to take a 44-41 lead before BW used an 8-0 run to take a 51-48 lead into the final 10 minutes. Three minutes would pass before the Battling Bishops would net the first field goal of the final quarter to pull within one, 51-50, and then added two more buckets for a 54-53 advantage. The two teams would trade baskets before a quartet of Bishop free throws would give OWU a 59-57 edge. Another 4-0 run would put the Bishops up 63-59 with 1:35 remaining before the game was tied 63-63 with 40 seconds remaining. An OWU jumper would give the Bishops a 65-63 advantage, but BW answered with a quick three-pointer for a one-point lead with under 18 seconds remaining in the game. A late pair of free throws would secure the three-point third-round victory for Baldwin Wallace. Ohio Wesleyan was led by sophomore post Macy Miller (Marysville, OH/Fairbanks) who netted a game-high 20 points, and added five rebounds, two assist, one block and one steal. Fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg, OH/Mechanicsburg) recorded a game-high three steals, with 16 points, six rebounds, one block and one assist, while senior post Karlee Ross (Beverly, OH/Fort Frye) pulled in a team-high seven rebounds, to go along with 13 points and fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) dished a game-high six assists, and added 11 points, three rebounds and one block. Bella Vaillant led Baldwin Wallace with 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds. As a team, OWU connected on 27-of-63 field goal attempts and made 7-of-10 chances at the line, while BW went 27-of-60 from the floor and 10-of-13 at the charity stripe. Ohio Wesleyan now owns a 10-9 (.526) record in the NCAA tourney.
