NCAC Announces Extreme Sports Expansion for 2025-26 4/1/2025 1:00:00 PM Share: CLEVELAND, OH – In a groundbreaking move, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) has announced the addition of Extreme Sports to its lineup of varsity athletics for the 2025-26 season. The new sports will include: Competitive Cornhole – A new fall sport featuring high-stakes bean bag tossing, with both indoor and outdoor divisions to accommodate different playing conditions. Lawn Mower Racing – The fastest mowers in the Midwest take center stage in this high-speed, high-intensity competition, ensuring top-notch turf maintenance along the way. Snow Kayaking – A thrilling winter alternative that combines whitewater kayaking with downhill skiing, designed exclusively for our most adventurous student-athletes. Synchronized E-Scooter Freestyle – Teams will choreograph dazzling performances on electric scooters, showcasing balance, creativity, and elite pedestrian-dodging skills. NCAC Executive Director Keri Alexander Luchowski shared enthusiasm for the new sports, stating, "We've always prided ourselves on innovation, and this expansion allows us to reach a new generation of athletes while keeping the spirit of competition alive in unexpected ways." Nan Carney-DeBord, long-time administrator and coach, is set to retire at the conclusion of this academic year and will transition to the conference office as the inaugural Director of Extreme Sports. "Nothing else could have delayed my retirement except for an opportunity to establish this initiative for the NCAC," Carney-DeBord stated. "I'm excited to build a framework for these emerging sports that is person-focused, relationship-driven, and process-oriented." Competition schedules, championship formats, and eligibility requirements will be announced in the coming months. While we're always exploring ways to push the boundaries of collegiate athletics, we have to admit—this one might be a little ahead of its time. While you won't see synchronized e-scooter freestyle or competitive cornhole at the next NCAC Championships, we hope you enjoyed dreaming big with us. Happy April Fools'!
