Denison's Shah Ends Season as National Runner-Up in Singles

CLAREMONT, CA - Denison junior Kael Shah (Nairobi, Kenya/ES American School Barcelona (Spain)) ends the 2025 season as the national runner-up in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship.

In the singles championship final on Monday, May 26, No. 3-ranked Shah dropped a tough 6-0, 6-1 loss to the top-ranked singles player in the nation, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ Advik Mareedu. The junior replicated his sophomore campaign as he was the national runner-up to Bowdoin’s Tristan Bradley at the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship.

After winning the national team title earlier in the week, Shah will end his season as a two-time All-American in singles and doubles, respectively. The junior now owns six All-American honors across his career at Denison.

 

Shah Advances to NCAA Individual Championship Match

CLAREMONT, CA
- Returning to the national stage, Denison junior Kael Shah (Nairobi, Kenya/ES American School Barcelona (Spain)) advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship final for the second consecutive season with a semifinal victory on Sunday, May 25.

In the semifinal match, Shah, ranked No. 3 nationally, faced No. 17 Javier Gonzalez of Tufts. Shah took an early 3-0 lead in the opening set before Gonzalez was forced to retire due to injury, propelling Shah into the championship match. The junior is set to face No. 1 Advik Mareedu from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the finals of the singles championship for the national title, which is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. 

In the women's singles championship, Kenyon junior Eleni Lazaridou (Veroia, Greece/4th Lyceum of Veria) advanced to the quarterfinals with two wins on Saturday. The juniors national title run came to an end Sunday with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to No. 1 seed Emily Kantrovitz of Emory.

 

Lazaridou, Shah Advance to Sunday Play at NCAA Tennis Individual Championships

CLAREMONT, CA -
On Saturday, May 24, Kenyon junior Eleni Lazaridou (Veroia, Greece/4th Lyceum of Veria) and Denison junior Kael Shah (Nairobi, Kenyon/ES American School Barcelona (Spain)) represented the North Coast Athletic Conference in the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's & Women's Tennis Singles Championships, while Lazaridou and first-year Hana Nouaime (Eagleville, PA/Methacton) and Shah and Ethan Green (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline) competed in the Doubles Championships.
 
To start the day, Lazaridou, who is ranked 13th in the country, earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Addison Felts from Mary Washington to advance into the next round. With the first-round victory, Lazaridou earned All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). In the second round, she collected a 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 9-ranked Erica Ekstrand from Chicago. Lazaridou will now compete in the quarterfinal round and is set to face top-ranked Emily Kantrovitz from Emory. The women's round of eight will take place on Sunday, May 25, at 1:00 p.m.
 
In men's singles action, No. 3-ranked Shah took on No. 10-ranked Mark Kneiss of Bowdoin in the quarterfinal round. Shah posted a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) victory to advance into the semifinal round and will take on No. 17-ranked Javier Gonzalez from Tufts. The men's round of four will take place on Sunday, May 25, at 1:00 p.m.
 
Later in the day in doubles play, the No. 25- ranked tandem of Lazaridou and Nouaime fell 7-5, 6-4 to No. 16-ranked Alisha Chulani and Rebecca Kong of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. In doubles action on the men's side, the No. 2-ranked doubles pair of Shah and Green took on No. 11 Pato Garcia Muriel and Stefan Hester from WashU in the quarterfinal round and fell 6-3, 6-7 (7-1), 4-6.

 

Denison's Green & Shah Advance to NCAA Men's Tennis Quarterfinals

CLAREMONT, CA -- Four North Coast Athletic Conference student-athletes competed in the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship, while an NCAC doubles duo also opened the Doubles Championship on Friday, May 23.
 
In the first round of the singles championship, Denison junior and No. 20-ranked Jacob Patterson (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) defeated Washington and Lee's No. 37-ranked Evan Erb 6-3, 6-2, while Big Red classmate and No. 3-ranked Kael Shah (Nairobi, Kenyon/ES American School Barcelona (Spain)) earned a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-1) victory over Pomona-Pitzer's No. 12-ranked Drew Goldman, Kenyon junior and No. 19-ranked Paulo Pocasangre Kreling (Guacimo, Costa Rica/Interamerican High School CATI) fell 6-2, 7-5 to MIT's No. 26-ranked Kailas Kahler and Denison junior and No. 4-ranked Ethan Green (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline) dropped a 6-3, 6-3 matchup to NYU's Boren Zheng.
 
With the first-round victories, Patterson and Shah earned All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and moved on to the second round. Shah took on No. 26-ranked Kailas Kahler from MIT, while Patterson faced No. 1-ranked Advik Mareedu from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Patterson fell 6-1, 6-1, while Shah recorded a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 win and is set to face No. 10 Mark Kneiss of Bowdoin in the quarterfinal round of the singles championship, which is scheduled to be played not before 2:00 p.m. (ET) tomorrow.
 
Later in the day, the No. 2 ranked doubles pair of Green and Shah teamed up to take onNo. 7 Ruilin Feng and Christian Liew from Emory in the first round of the doubles championships. The Denison tandem collected a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3  victory and will face No. 11 Pato Garcia Muriel and Stefan Hester from WashU in the quarterfinal round not to be played before 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. With their first round victory, the Denison pair secured All-America honors from the ITA.
