Oberlin’s Okubo to Compete in Japan's Pro League

Oberlin graduate Yuuki Okubo (Los Angeles, CA/Crossroads) is joining the professional ranks, signing a contract with the Fukushima Firebonds in Japan.

The 5’8’’ guard joins the Firebonds who compete in the 14-team B2 League, Japan’s second-tier professional basketball league. Fukushima joined the league in 2014 and the team is seeking their first league championship. Since 2012, five Yeomen have signed professional international basketball contracts, including three in the past three seasons under Head Coach Shiva Senthil.
 
Okubo departs Oberlin as the program’s all-time leader in assists with 510. In the 2023-24 season, he was rewarded with third-team All-NCAC honors and also earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors.
