The No. 20-ranked Kenyon Owls won their 18th NCAC Tournament to earn a berth into the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships, which are set to begin with first-third round matchups this weekend, Friday-Sunday, May 9-11. All rounds are single elimination.
Kenyon (15-6) will travel to Washington University in St. Louis and await the winner of the first-round match between No. 29 Sewanee (15-5) and unranked Transylvania (9-7). The Tigers and Pioneers will square off on Friday, May 9, with the winner advancing to face Kenyon on Saturday, May 10. Match times are to be determined.
The Owls will make their third-consecutive and 25th overall appearance in the national tournament, after winning the NCAC's automatic bid with a 4-0 victory over No. 31 Denison in conference tournament final. Kenyon holds a 34-22 (.607) record in NCAA play; the Owls have posted top-four finishes 10 times and won the national championship in 1993, '95, and '97.
Sewanee punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament with a 4-0 win over Berry in the Southern Athletic Association championship match. The Tigers are making their 31st NCAA appearance and have a 25-30 (.455) tournament record.
Transylvania earned its berth by winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-0 win over Earlham. This marks the Pioneers' sixth NCAA appearance; they hold a 1-6 (.143) postseason record.
Kenyon is 0-3 all-time against Sewanee, including a narrow 5-4 loss in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. This would mark the first time Kenyon and Transylvania have met.
On the other side of the bracket, host WashU (13-7), ranked No. 9 nationally, received a first-round bye and will face the winner of No. 40 Grinnell (18-9) and No. 55 Wisconsin-Whitewater (14-8).
All match times are still to be determined and will be announced as soon as information is available.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, California, will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 19-22 at Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California. Student-athletes selected for the individual championships will be announced on Wednesday, May 7.
The championship provides for a 49-team tournament. Automatic qualification (AQ) is granted to 39 conference champions. The remaining ten teams will be selected from true independents, schools from conferences that do not have an automatic bid for their champions, and teams in conferences with an automatic bid that did not win their conferences AQ (At-Large). The teams are geographically paired whenever possible.
