Extra Points Returns as a Bowl Sponsor in Opendorse Bowl Series

| By: Brian Rose, Presidents Athletic Conference
CLEVELAND, OH - After serving as a Bowl Game sponsor in last year's inaugural Opendorse Bowl Series at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, Extra Points, a leading newsletter covering business, policy and off-the-field stories in the college sports industry, is pleased to announce they are returning as the official title sponsor of The Extra Points Bowl.

The Extra Points Bowl will feature football teams that do not qualify for the NCAA Division III Playoffs between two of the four conferences affiliated with the Opendorse Bowl Series, which includes the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, North Coast Athletic Conference, Ohio Athletic Conference and the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. The game will be played on Nov 22, 2025, and once again be held at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

The conference match-ups for the Opendorse Bowl Series will be determined at a later time to try to ensure there is not a rematch from the regular season. Although the match-ups will be determined at a later time, the Extra Points Bowl will once again be the second game that day with a 6 pm kickoff.

In the 2024 Extra Points Bowl, Westminster College (8-3) from the Presidents' Athletic Conference defeated Marietta College (8-3) from the Ohio Athletic Conference 27-13 under the lights at Tom Benson Stadium.

Fans will also be able to watch a broadcast of the Extra Points Bowl on FloSports. Additional broadcast, kickoff and ticket information will be available at a later date.

“(Sponsoring the Extra Points Bowl) was, without question, one of the highlights of my professional career,” said Matt Brown, the founder and publisher of Extra Points. “We got to see the Westminster Titans defeat the Marietta Pioneers in an entertaining and competitive game. And we also got to learn an awful lot about what goes into running a high level college sports event. That bowl game has informed how I cover sponsorships, neutral site games, the economics of D-III athletics, and more.

“There are a couple of reasons we were interested in doing this again," continued Brown. "I legitimately care about D-III sports. I grew up in a NCAC market (Granville, Ohio, home of the Denison University Big Red), and spent much of my life around NCAC, OAC and PAC institutions. So much of the editorial coverage of Extra Points centers on schools outside the P4, and being a part of a postseason event for smaller colleges close to my heart gives us a chance to live our values. We want athletes to have memorable experiences at all levels, after all.

“We also wanted to do this again so we can better understand how we can better support and improve the event from a year-to-year basis.," said Brown. "If we were at least partially motivated to sponsor a bowl game so we could better understand how event management works, then we need a larger data sample than just one weekend.”

Over the course of the regular season, Extra Points will publish updates on the behind-the-scenes efforts to continue building the Extra Points Bowl into an elite event for all, as well as coverage of the game itself.
