SPRINGFIELD, OH - Wittenberg University Men's Soccer Head Coach Dwight Burgess has announced his retirement, effective at the conclusion of the 2026 season.

Burgess spent 31 years as a collegiate coach, including 29 seasons as a head coach working with both men's and women's teams. Heading into the final two weeks of the 2026 regular season, Burgess has a career record of 244-233-60, including a record of 58-88-27 since 2016 at Wittenberg.

"I’ve had 11 great years at Wittenberg," Burgess said. "I’m proud of the young men I've had the privilege of coaching and the staff members with whom I’ve worked over many years. I'd specifically like to say thank you to University Vice President & Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Agler, Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations Brad Beals, and Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations & Compliance Jay Owen for their leadership and unyielding support."

Before his tenure at Wittenberg, Burgess spent a decade as the men's head coach and eight years as the women’s head coach at Capital University, where he was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame. Dwight began his career as an assistant coach for the men's soccer program at The Ohio State University.

A national search for Burgess' successor will begin after the 2026 season concludes.
