MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Three North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) baseball standouts were among the honorees on the D3baseball.com 50th Anniversary Team. Also known as the Golden Team, D3baseball.com recognizes the "best of the best" from the first 50 years of Division III baseball. Wooster placed two former student-athletes on the list, including Rick Sforzo ‘87 and Jake Frank ‘05, while Ohio Wesleyan’s Drew Caravella ‘02 earned a spot on the team. D3baseball.com selected just 68 players for the honor.

Sforzo, a first-team infielder on the Golden Team, graduated as Wooster's first three-time All-American in baseball. He batted .468 as a junior with 16 homers and 77 RBI, then followed with 16 more homers and 54 RBI as a senior, earning first-team All-America honors both seasons. As a sophomore he hit .446 with 46 RBI and won the first of three straight NCAC Player of the Year awards. Nearly four decades after graduating, Sforzo still holds the program record for total bases (461) and doubles (66); his 198 career RBI rank second in program history, and his hits (263) and batting average (.415) both rank third. He was inducted into the Wooster Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.

Frank, a second-team infielder on the Golden Team, hit .399 with 50 RBI as a first-year on Wooster's senior-laden 2002 team, regarded as one of the best in program history, and earned his first of four All-NCAC first-team selections. As a sophomore he improved to a .434 average with 14 doubles, 11 home runs and 62 RBI, earning NCAC Player of the Year and first-team All-America recognition at third base. Frank repeated as an All-American as a junior and senior, helping the Fighting Scots to a third-place national finish in 2005. He graduated seventh in Division III history in runs (218), tied for 10th in RBI (224), and ranked in the top 20 all-time in hits (13th, 265) and doubles (20th, 59). Frank was inducted into the Wooster Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.

Caravella, a second-team selection on the Golden Team, was a three-time All-American and four-time All-NCAC first baseman and is regarded as one of the most prolific sluggers in Ohio Wesleyan history. He was named NCAC Newcomer of the Year and honorable mention All-NCAC as a first-year after batting .352 with nine home runs and 47 RBI, then hit .439 with 12 home runs and 75 RBI as a sophomore, leading the NCAC in both categories and earning NCAC Player of the Year, first-team All-NCAC, first-team all-region, and second-team All-America honors. As a junior he batted .447 with 16 home runs and led the NCAC with 82 RBI, was named MVP of the NCAC tournament, and again earned first-team All-NCAC, all-region, and All-America honors. As a senior he was named Division III Player of the Year and NCAC Player of the Year for the second time, leading the conference in batting (.534), hits (87), doubles (21), and RBI (89). His career .445 batting average is an Ohio Wesleyan program record, as are his totals in hits (297), home runs (53), RBI (293), total bases (531), and slugging percentage (.796). Caravella was inducted into the OWU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012 and was also named to D3baseball.com's 2000s All-Decade First Team.
