2024 All-NCAC Field Hockey Team
Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Grace Ammon (Southborough, MA/Algonquin Regional) along with Denison sophomores Emma Gebhart (Carlisle, MA/Concord Carlisle) and Tabitha Chandler (Washington, D.C./National Cathedral School) have been named the Players of the Year to highlight the 2024 All-North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey selections.
Gebhart is the fifth Denison player to claim Offensive Player of the Year honors, and the first since Jenny Lacey was selected in 2005. The sophomore earned her first All-NCAC certificate, making her first appearance on the top team. Gebhart led the league in goals (15), points (35) and shots (78), while tying for second in game-winning goals (4), ranking second in shots on goal (50) and tying for third in assists (5). In league action, the midfielder led the conference with 59 shots, 12 goals and 28 points. Three of her 12 league goals were game winners and 39 of her 59 shots against NCAC opponents were on frame. The second-year also dished four assists and tallied at least one point in eight of her team's 10 NCAC matchups. The Big Red collected their league-leading 13th NCAC championships title after posting a 9-1 record in NCAC action this fall.
Ammon, who earned a back-to-back selection to the first team, is the second Ohio Wesleyan player to claim the Midfielder of the Year honor after junior teammate Olivia Danley (Del Rio, Texas Independence (VA)) collected the award a season ago. The 2023 Newcomer of the Year helped lead the Battling Bishops to a near-perfect 9-1 record in conference play to collect their second-straight and 11th overall championship trophy. In conference action, Ammon tied for a league-best six assists, while taking 45 shots to rank third against league opponents. Overall, the midfielder tallied an NCAC-best nine assists, to go along with five goals for 19 points. The Battling Bishops entered the NCAC tournament as the number one seed and captured their third NCAC tournament crown.
Chandler earns Denison its seventh overall NCAC Defensive Player of the Year recognition, and second-consecutive honoree after former teammate Grace Lock earned the award a season ago. The sophomore elevated to the top team after claiming second-team laurels in 2023. Chandler helped lead the Big Red to a near-perfect 9-1 mark in NCAC play, which qualified the team for their 15th-straight appearance in the NCAC Tournament. The defender anchored a Denison backline that allowed a league-low five goals through 10 conference games to post a minuscule 0.50 goals-against-average and six shutouts. Chandler and the Big Red defense allowed no more than four shots on goal in nine of the ten NCAC games, including holding opponents to no more than two shots in four conference matchups.
Kenyon senior forward Grace Lane (Chelsea, MI/Chelsea) is the lone four-time All-NCAC selection after earning a second-consecutive nod to the first team this season, second-team laurels in 2022 and honorable mention in 2021. DePauw junior forward Hailey Nowak (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park & River Forest) is a three-time first-team selection, while Ohio Wesleyan junior midfielder Alyssa Markell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) repeats as a top-team honoree from last season. Ohio Wesleyan senior defender Ellie Conroy (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) and Wittenberg senior midfielder Lucy Ripepi (Lakewood, OH/Magnificat) both elevate to the first team after earning third-team accolades last season. Ripepi also collected a first-team All-NCAC certificate in 2022. Three student-athletes join Gebhart as they make their All-NCAC debut on the top team this season including, Allegheny first-year goalkeeper Rowan O'Toole (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spalding), DePauw senior forward Alexandra May (Denver, CO/ St. Mary's Academy) and Wittenberg junior forward Devyn Groves (La Grange, KY/Oldham County Senior).
In addition, Allegheny's O'Toole was named the 2024 NCAC Newcomer of the Year as the league's top player in their first year of collegiate competition. O'Toole is the second Gator to claim the honor, and the first since senior teammate Bella Cowen (Louisville, KY/Kentucky Country Day School) received the award in 2021. The rookie started in all 17 of Allegheny's games and finished the season with a league-high 179 saves. In 632:01 minutes of NCAC play, the keeper made 98 stops and shut out three conference opponents. O'Toole's overall 10.53 saves per game currently rank her No. 15 in all of Division III.
Wittenberg claimed the 2024 Coaching Staff of the Year honor, the tenth coaching award in program history. The Tigers are led by Head Coach Brighid Kortyna and Assistant Coach Maddie Passarella. The Wittenberg offense was top five in the league with 201 shots, 102 shots on goal, 30 goals, nine game-winners, 18 assists and 78 points in 14 games played. In league action, the Tigers ranked in the top five in shots (148), shots on goal (70), goals (21), game-winners (6), assists (13) and points (55). The Wittenberg defense earned seven shutouts on the season, five of which came in conference action. The Tiger backline allowed a league-low 12 goals over 14 games for an NCAC-best 0.86 goals-against average and .867 save percentage, while giving up just nine goals to conference opponents. Wittenberg's overall save percentage currently ranks second in all of Division III.
