2024 All-NCAC Men's Soccer Team
Ohio Wesleyan senior Brady West (Dublin, OH/Columbus St. Charles) along with Denison senior Jake Krueger (Wilmette, IL/New Trier Township) and junior Kameron Kist (New Albany, OH/New Albany) were named the Players of the Year to highlight the 2024 All-North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer selections.
Krueger, who captured his third-consecutive nod to the first team, is the first Big Red player to earn Offensive Player of the Year. In 19 games, the forward has posted a league-high 31 shots on goal, 30 points, 13 goals and six game-winners, to go along with four assists so far this season. In eight conference matchups, the senior recorded two assists and five goals, which included a league-high three game-winners, for 12 total points. With an at-large bid into the DIII tournament, Denison will host a four-team regional and begin play with a first-round matchup against Anderson (IN) on Saturday, November 16.
Kist, who earned his second-consecutive All-NCAC first-team selection, captured Denison's first Midfielder of the Year award. In the Big Red's eight regular-season conference matchups, Kist has dished two assists, and overall, he has tallied five assists through 19 games. The junior and the Denison defense held NCAC opponents to a league-low one goal for a minuscule 0.13 goals-against average to go along with an NCAC-best seven shutouts. Overall, the Big Red have shut out 13 opponents and allowed just eight goals (0.42 GAA) in 19 games. Denison will be making its second-straight Division III playoff appearance.
West, who was named the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, claims his third-straight first-team all-conference selection. He earned the Battling Bishops their 13th overall Defensive Player of the Year honor, and first since former teammate Mason Taylor was named in 2022. In eight conference matchups, the senior and his backline bolstered a defense that allowed just four goals in 720:00 minutes of action for the second-lowest goals-against-average in the league at 0.50 and the second-most shutouts with five. Through 18 games, the Bishops have allowed 17 goals (0.94 GAA) and posted seven shutouts. West has also contributed on the offensive end, posting five points off one goal and three helpers so far this season. After earning an at-large bid into the NCAA postseason, Ohio Wesleyan will head to Fredericksburg, Virginia, for a first-round matchup with Catholic on Saturday, November 16.
Ohio Wesleyan senior forward Jaggar Brooker (Powell, OH/Olentangy Liberty), the 2021 Offensive Player of the Year, and Kenyon senior midfielder Eamon Dujakovich (Lenexa, KS/Shawnee Mission West), the 2023 Midfielder of the Year, join Kist, Krueger and West as repeat selections to the first team from last season. Brooker also earned a second-team nod in 2022 and first-team honors in 2021.
Denison junior defender Henri Heyes (New Albany, OH/New Albany) and Kenyon senior defender Matt Nguyen (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) both earn their third All-NCAC certificates, as Nguyen elevated to the top team after collecting a second-team nod in both 2023 and 2022 and Heyes jumped to the top team after third-team laurels in both 2023 and 2022. Wabash junior forward Jose Escalante (Merida, Venezuela/Speedway (IN)), Ohio Wesleyan senior forward Franklin Rodriguez (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Berkshire (MA)) and Denison senior goalkeeper Tommy Prokos (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South) all capture their second all-conference certificates, as Escalante and Prokos made the move to the first team after collecting second-team honors last season and Rodriguez elevated to the first team after receiving third-team laurels in 2023. Kenyon freshman midfielder Justin Buchwalter (Houston, TX/Shattuck-St. Mary's School) made his All-NCAC debut on the first team this season.
In addition to an all-conference first-team selection, Kenyon's Buchwalter was named the 2024 NCAC Newcomer of the Year as the league's top player in their first year of collegiate competition. The rookie claims the Owls' seventh conference Newcomer of the Year award, and first honor since senior teammate Gerardo Martinez (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie) was selected in 2021. In 18 games, 12 of which the first-year started, Buchwalter recorded eight points, as he dished two assists and found the back of the net three times, two of which were game-winning goals. Kenyon will host a four-team NCAA regional, beginning tournament play with a first-round matchup against Spalding on Friday, November 15.
Denison claimed the 2024 Coaching Staff of the Year honors, the second coaching award in program history. The Big Red are led by Head Coach Brandon Bianco and Assistant Coaches Tyler Gallagher and Ben Woelfinger. The Denison squad posted an unbeaten NCAC record of 6-0-2 to collect the program's third overall NCAC Championship this season. In eight conference matchups, the Big Red defense allowed a league-low one goal for a minuscule 0.13 goals-against average to go along with an NCAC-best .955 save percentage and seven shutouts. The offense earned a conference-high 52 corners to help produce 54 points on 20 goals and 14 assists. Through 19 games, Denison has recorded 111 points on 41 goals and 29 assists, while shutting out 13 opponents and only allowing eight goals (0.42 GAA) overall. Denison will enter the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time after receiving an at-large bid into the national postseason.
