CHAMPIONSHIP & THIRD PLACE MATCH:

No. 30-ranked Denison (14-7) captured the 2022 NCAC Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday, May 1, in Gambier, Ohio. The Big Red defeated No. 21-ranked Kenyon (13-10), 5-3, securing their 13th NCAC title in program history. The Oberlin Yeowomen also secured a 5-0 decision over DePauw in the third-place match.

Kenyon began the day with a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The Ladies combo of Daria Beshentseva (Moscow, Russia/Lyceum 1535) and Eleni Dakos (Towaco, NJ/Newark Academy) secured an 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Lalasa Nagireddy (Dublin, OH/Dublin Jerome) and Catriona MacIntosh (Busby, Scotland/Williamwood) won 8-7 at No. 3 doubles. In second doubles, the Denison duo of Monique Brual (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) and Caroline Lopez (Los Angeles, CA/Westridge) collected an 8-6 victory for the Big Red's first point.

In singles play, the Big Red captured four points, including the championship-clinching point at No. 5 singles after Lopez won in a 10-point super breaker, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5). Denison junior Sarah Robertson (Rocky River, OH/Rocky River) also won in a super breaker at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5). The Big Red's other two singles victories came in the form of Beal at No. 3 singles and Hannah Bradvica (Riverside, CA/Notre Dame) at No. 4 singles.

As conference champions, Denison has earned the league's automatic bid into the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament. The NCAA Division III field will be announced via press release on Monday, May 9 at NCAA.com.

SEMIFINALS, FIFTH & SEVENTH PLACE:

The two No. 1 seeds remain after day two of competition at the 2022 NCAC Women's Tennis Championships in Gambier, Ohio.

In the semifinals matchups, (1E) Kenyon claimed a 5-0 victory over (2W) DePauw while (1W) Denison earned a 5-3 win over (2E) Oberlin. (3W) Wittenberg captured a 5-3 victory over (3E) Wooster to claim fifth place in the tournament while (4W) Ohio Wesleyan defeated (4E) Allegheny, 5-1, to take seventh place.

On Sunday, (2W) DePauw will compete against (2E) Oberlin for third place, while (1E) Kenyon will meet (1W) Denison in the finals. The NCAC Champion will earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.  

 
QUARTERFINALS

The higher seeds held after the first day of competition of the 2022 NCAC Women's Tennis Championships on Friday.

In the quarterfinals, (1E) Kenyon claimed a 5-0 victory over (4W) Ohio Wesleyan, while (1W) Denison earned a 5-0 win over (4E) Allegheny, (2W) DePauw defeated (3E) Wooster, 5-2, and (2E) Oberlin recorded a 5-2 victory over (3W) Wittenberg.

In the semifinals on Saturday, (1E) Kenyon will compete against (2W) DePauw, while (1W) Denison is set to take on (2E) Oberlin. Other matches on the day will include (3E) Wooster playing (3W) Wittenberg in the fifth-place match while (4E) Allegheny and (4W) Ohio Wesleyan square-off for seventh-place.

On Sunday, the non-advancing semifinal teams will compete for third-place, while the winners of the semifinals will meet in the finals with the winner earning the NCAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament. 

SEEDINGS/PAIRINGS:

The 2022 NCAC Women's Tennis Championship will be held this weekend, April 29 – May 1, at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. The tournament begins with quarterfinal matches on Friday, semifinal and fifth- and seventh-place matches on Saturday and the championship and third-place matches on Sunday. The first two days will begin with matches at 11:00 a.m. and conclude with matches at 1:30 p.m. The championship and third-place match are scheduled for Noon on Sunday.

The No. 1 seed in the NCAC West Division, Denison (11-6, 3-0 NCAC), will play the No. 4 seed in the East, Allegheny (7-9, 0-3), while DePauw (6-12, 2-1), the West Division's second seed, will meet the East Division's third seed, Wooster (11-8, 1-2). In the other two opening-round matches, the East Division's No. 1 seed, Kenyon (11-9, 3-0), will take on the No. 4 seed in the West Division, Ohio Wesleyan (6-12, 0-3), while Oberlin (10-9, 2-1), the East's No. 2-seed will meet up with the No. 3 seed in the West in Wittenberg (7-7, 1-2).

2022 NCAC Women's Tennis Championship Format

Regular-season divisional conference play shall be used to seed the tournament. The number one seed in the West Division will play the number four seed in the East; #2 West vs. #3 East; #3 West vs. #2 East; and #4 West vs. #1 East. The tournament (team format with consolation) shall be single elimination with consolation matches played out to six places.

The winner of the championship match will claim the 2022 NCAC Championship and also earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
