2021 NCAC Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week

Sam Thiel, DePauw
(Carmel, IN/Carmel)

DePauw sophomore Sam Thiel helped the Tigers to a perfect 3-0 start to the season with wins over Anderson (IN), Mount St. Joseph and Manchester. Thiel tallied two goals on the week, both game-winners, against Anderson and Mount St. Joseph.

Jaggar Brooker, Ohio Wesleyan
(Powell, OH/Olentangy Liberty)

Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Jaggar Brooker tallied three goals, including two game-winners last week for the Battling Bishops. On Friday, Brooker scored two goals as OWU wiped out a 1-0 deficit and went on to defeat Muskingum, 3-1, in the first round of the Fred Myers-Adidas Invitational. He also tallied the only goal of the game against Grove City on Saturday, earning the Dick Gauthier Award as the Fred Myers-Adidas Invitational co-MVP.

Austin Hughes, Wabash
(Clarksville, IN/Our Lady of Providence)

Wabash junior Austin Hughes scored two goals and handed out three assists to help the Little Giants earn three wins last week. He picked up an assist on the Little Giants' second goal of a 5-0 home win over Anderson University on Tuesday. On Saturday, Hughes scored the first goal of the game at Hanover in a match Wabash eventually won by a score of 3-1. The junior ended the week by getting in on each of the three Little Giant goals in a 3-2 win over Grinell on Sunday, scoring once and providing two assists.

Kees Ciric, Wittenberg
(Loveland, OH/Loveland)

Wittenberg freshman Kees Ciric helped the Tigers to a 3-0 week with wins against Earlham, Heidelberg and Hiram. In the conference-opener against Hiram, Ciric collected the game-winner in what was a 2-1 victory. On the week, the first-year scored twice and assisted two more goals for six points as the Tigers improved to 6-2-2 overall.
 

October 4th
 

 

Vitor Rocha, Denion
(Sao Paulo, Brazil/Rainha da Paz)

Denison junior Vitor Rocha scored three goals and dished one assist for seven total points last week. Rocha tallied a goal as the Big Red tied No. 13-ranked Otterbein, 1-1. He also tallied two goals and one assist in a victory over Allegheny for the team's first conference win of the season.
 

October 11th
 

Hector Gomez, Ohio Wesleyan
(Columbus, OH/St. Francis DeSales)

Ohio Wesleyan senior Hector Gomez took part in both goals of a 2-0 victory over Wooster on Saturday. Gomez set up the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute and followed with an insurance goal in the 77th minute.

Alem Duratovic, Kenyon
(Deerfield, IL/Adlai E. Stevenson)

Kenyon first-year Alem Duratovic scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime on Tuesday against No. 4-ranked Ohio Wesleyan. Duratovic broke loose in the box and buried the game-winning goal that lifted the Lords to a 1-0 decision over the previously undefeated Battling Bishops.

Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Jaggar Brooker scored three goals in a 2-0 week for the Battling Bishops. On Tuesday, Brooker scored the game-winner against DePauw, before scoring both Ohio Wesleyan goals in a victory against Wabash.
 

November 1st
 

 

Sebastian Gaese, Kenyon
(Frankfurt am Main, Germany/Ziehenschule)

Kenyon junior Sebastian Gaese scored in each of the Lords' two conference victories last week, helping Kenyon clinch the 2021 NCAC Championship. On Wednesday, Gaese scored the second goal in a 3-2 victory over Oberlin and then followed with the game's only goal on Saturday at DePauw. The Lords finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0-0 conference record.
