2021 NCAC Softball Players of the Week

March 1st


  
Grace Smith, DePauw
(Noblesville, IN/Noblesville)


DePauw junior Grace Smith helped the Tigers go 4-0 to start the 2021 season. Her best game came against Central (IA), where she collected two hits in three at-bats, resulting in three RBI. She also walked once in the game. On the week, Smith went 3-for-6 (.500) with a double, a walk and three RBI.

 


 
Cami Henry, DePauw
(Camby, IN/Mooresville)


DePauw junior Cami Henry collected two complete game victories in the Tiger's doubleheader on Saturday. In a 5-4 victory over Simpson, she scattered eight hits and gave up four runs, while striking out 12 batters and walking just one. In a 5-2 win against Central (IA), she allowed just three hits and two runs, while sitting down 12 batters.

Emily Timberman, DePauw
(Fishers, IN/Cathedral)


DePauw freshman Emily Timberman helped spur a 4-0 week for the Tigers. She hit safely in each of the four games, finishing the week 5-for-13 (.385) from the plate, including a pair of doubles. She also was perfect in the field, recording eight putouts on eight total chances from the three different positions (1B/3B/CF).




 





 
Cami Henry, DePauw
(Camby, IN/Mooresville)


DePauw junior Cami Henry allowed one hit across 8.1 innings, helping the Tigers to three victories last week. Against Illinois College, Henry picked up the win, throwing 2.2 innings of scoreless, hitless ball, striking out eight and walking none. She also picked up the win against Buena Vista, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing one hit, striking out three and walking one. In the final game of the week against Nebraska Wesleyan, the junior compiled 2.1 innings, allowing no hits or runs, while striking out two and walking one.

Julia Burch, Wittenberg

Wittenberg freshman Julia Burch collected six hits across 12 at-bats (.500) for the Tigers last week. The freshman collected hits in three of Wittenberg's four games, including two multi-hit games. She also drew a pair of walks, scored three runs and drove in three runners on the week.


 
Katelyn Niswonger, Wittenberg
(Dexter, MI/Dexter)


Wittenberg senior Katelyn Niswonger picked up two wins on the week, pitching two complete games for the Red and White. Her best performance came against Hiram, as she allowed just four hits and five unearned runs, while striking out seven and walking just one in an 8-5 victory.

Elise Freeland, Wittenberg
(Marysville, OH/Marysville)


Wittenberg senior Elise Freeland put together a five-game hit streak last week for the Tigers, collecting multiple hits in four of six games. Wittenberg ended the week by taking down two nationally ranked opponents with wins over No.10-ranked Transylvania (8-7) and No.7-ranked DePauw (5-4). On the week, Freeland recorded 12 hits (.571 avg), including four doubles, one triple, one home run, while scoring 11 runs and collecting four RBI. She also notched nine stolen bases in a 5-1 week for the Red and White.





 
Olivia Johnson, Wooster
(Thornville, OH/Sheridan)


Wooster senior Olivia Johnson pitched two complete-game victories against Denison last week. On Saturday, Johnson pitched seven innings of six-hit, two run ball, while walking just one and striking out 11. On Sunday, she followed with a five-inning performance, scattering four hits, allowing one run and striking out eight batters.

Emmalee Cooke, Wooster
(Wakeman, OH/Western Reserve)


Wooster senior leadoff hitter Emmalee Cooke batted .563 (9-of-16) this past weekend in four games against Case Western Reserve. Cooke hit safely in all four contests, including at least one extra-base hit in each game, while also recording three multi-hit games. She finished the week with four scored runs, four doubles, one home run and three RBI.


 
Katie Chittum, Ohio Wesleyan
(Hebron, OH/Lakewood)


Ohio Wesleyan freshman pitcher Katie Chittum pitched a complete game in her collegiate debut, notching a 3-2 extra-inning victory over Hiram. Chittum scattered 11 hits, with just two unearned runs over 10 innings of work. She allowed three walks and struck out two for the Battling Bishops' first victory of the season.

Abriana Schwartz, Hiram
(San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills)


Hiram freshman Abriana Schwartz powered the Terriers to three victories last week against Wooster. Her best game came in a 7-5 win on Sunday, where she went 3-for-3 from the dish, including three doubles, scoring once and knocking in four RBI. On the week, Schwartz was 8-for-15 (.533 avg), collecting three doubles, one triple, one home run, scoring five runs and notching 10 RBI.


 
Sophia Parpala, Denison
(Deerfield, IL/Deerfield)


Denison sophomore pitcher Sohia Parpala picked up three pitching victories last week against Ohio Wesleyan. Her best performance came in a 5-4 victory, when she notched three innings of work, striking out one, allowing just two hits and no runs.

Brooke Swain, Wooster
(Seville, OH/Cloverleaf)


Wooster leadoff hitter Brooke Swain went 11-for-15 (.733 avg) at the plate in a four-game sweep of Allegheny last week. She scored eight runs, collected three RBI and swiped six bases, while drawing one walk in the duo of doubleheaders. She went 3-for-4 in each of the two games Saturday, 2-for-4 in the first game Sunday and capped off the series with a 3-for-3, three-run performance in game two.



 







 
Emily Tucci, Oberlin
(Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park)


Oberlin senior Emily Tucci earned a save and a win in Oberlin's season-opening sweep of Allegheny. In game one, Tucci entered with a 6-5 lead in the fifth and the potential game-tying run on second, but was able to record the final out of the inning to get out of the jam to pick up her fourth-career save. The senior earned her 10th-career win in game two, tossing six innings, allowing just five hits, four runs (three earned), three strikeouts, and three walks. Tucci also shined at the plate, going 4-for-7 (.571 avg) with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and four scored runs.

Abriana Schwartz, Hiram
(San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills)


Hiram freshman Abriana Schwartz helped power the Terriers to a 4-0 week against Allegheny. Her best performance came in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, when she went 4-for-4 from the plate, with a home run, a double, two RBI and three scored runs. On the week, she went 10-for-14 (.714 avg) from the dish, hit two home runs, scored eight times, collected four RBI and stole one base.

DePauw junior Cami Henry pitched 12.1 innings across three outings last week against Wittenberg. On Wednesday, Henry started game one of the doubleheader, pitching seven innings, allowing just three hits and two runs (both unearned), while striking out eight batters. She also made two relief appearances on the week, each totaling 2.2 innings, not allowing a run in either. On the week, she picked up two victories, allowed just seven hits, two runs, walked two and struck out 19 batters.
