2022 NCAC Women's Tennis Players of the Week

February 7th 
Katie Lee, Ohio Wesleyan
(Chardon, OH/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin)


Ohio Wesleyan junior Katie Lee did not lose a game while recording a pair of wins against Marietta. At No. 2 singles, Lee won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, while combining with Shanzay Ali (Powell, OH/Boise (ID) Timberline) for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles.

February 14th
Ruthie Silberman, Ohio Wesleyan
(Deerfield, IL/Deerfield)


Ohio Wesleyan senior Ruthie Silberman did not lose a game while recording a pair of wins against Ohio Christian. At No. 2 singles, Silberman won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, while combining with Katie Lee (Chardon, OH/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) for an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles.

February 21st 
Sarah Robertson, Denison
(Rocky River, OH/Rocky River)


Denison junior Sarah Robertson led the No. 12-ranked Big Red to a 6-3 victory over No. 36-ranked Centre. The junior won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2, while also teaming up with Monique Brual (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) for an 8-7 (7-5) victory at No. 1 doubles.

February 28th
Anna Pastore, Oberlin
(Rockville, MD/The Steward School)


Oberlin freshman Anna Pastore went 3-1 for the Yeowomen over the weekend. Pastore picked up a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-0) victory at No. 3 singles against Hope before winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, and at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, against Kalamazoo.

March 7th
Sydney Cianciola, Denison
(Canfield, OH/Canfield)


Denison junior Sydney Cianciola (Canfield, OH/Canfield) was a perfect 4-0 at the top flight over the weekend for the Big Red. Against No. 32-ranked Hope, Cianciola won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, in singles, after combining with teammate Sarah Robertson (Rocky River, OH/Rocky River) for an 8-4 victory in doubles action. Against Kalamazoo, the junior recorded a clean 6-0, 6-0, tally in singles play while collecting an 8-1 victory with Robertson in doubles.

March 14th
Ale Coronel-Zegarra, Ohio Wesleyan
(Hollywood, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas)


Ohio Wesleyan senior Ale Coronel-Zegarra went 5-1 last week for the Battling Bishops, including a perfect 3-0 record in singles play. The senior picked up victories at No. 1 singles against Immaculata, Ursinus, and King's, before combining with teammate Katie Lee (Chardon, OH/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) for an 8-1 No. 1 doubles victory against the Mighty Macs, and another 8-1 win with senior Ruthie Silberman (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) against the Monarchs at the top flight.

March 21st
Janaki Jagannathan, Wooster
(Malvern, PA/Whitmore School (WV))


Wooster first-year Janaki Jagannathan went 4-0 at third singles and 4-0 at doubles, which included a 3-0 record at the first flight and 1-0 record at No. 2 during a 4-0 week for the Fighting Scots. Jagannathan dropped just one set in the week and now has a seven-match winning streak in singles and a five-match streak in doubles. She has played a lead role in Wooster's current five-match winning streak, during which the team has dropped just six points.

March 28th
Jean-Arlette Legrand, Allegheny
(San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville School)


Allegheny sophomore Jean-Arlette Legrand compiled a 6-0 record on the week, winning all three of her matches at No. 5 singles and No. 1 doubles. Against Hollins, she won her singles match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, after sweeping doubles, 8-0. Against Union, the sophomore won singles 6-1, 6-3, while winning 8-5 in doubles play. Finally, Legrand finished her week with a 6-0, 6-1, victory in singles play against Augustana, while combining for an 8-7 (8-6) win in doubles action.

April 4th
Daria Beshentseva, Kenyon
(Moscow, Russia/Lyceum 1535)


Kenyon senior Daria Beshentseva nearly had a perfect week at the Midwest Invitational, going 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-1 at No 1 doubles. Against No. 21-ranked Washington-St. Louis, she won both her singles (6-1, 6-0) and doubles (8-5) matches, while winning her singles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, against No. 27-ranked North Central.

April 11th

Sydney Cianciola, Denison
(Canfield, OH/Canfield)


Denison junior Sydney Cianciola went 4-0 on the week and helped the Big Red to two division victories over Wittenberg and DePauw. Cianciola and partner Sarah Robertson (Rocky River, OH/Rocky River) collected 8-2 wins against both Tiger teams at the No. 1 flight. At No. 1 singles, the junior posted a 6-2, 6-3, win against Wittenberg and a 6-3, 6-2, victory at DePauw.


April 18th
Daria Beshentseva, Kenyon
(Moscow, Russia/Lyceum 1535)


Kenyon senior Daria Beshentseva led the Ladies to a 3-0 week. In singles play, Beshentseva dropped just one game against Wooster and Allegheny, before defeating Otterbein, 6-4, 7-5. Pairing up with Eleni Dakos (Towaco, NJ/Newark Academy), the tandem notched three wins at No. 1 doubles with 8-2, 8-4, and 8-1 victories on the week.

April 25th

Francesca Kern, Oberlin
(Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep)


Oberlin senior Francesca Kern turned in a perfect 6-0 week in three Yeowomen wins over Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg and Allegheny. Kern and teammate Dina Nouaime (Eagleville, PA/Methacton) combined for a trio of victories between No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, before Kern took straight sets in each of her singles matches.
