Brett Dietz joined the DePauw University football coaching staff in August of 2010 as a part-time receivers coach and was hired full-time as the quarterbacks and receivers coach for the 2011 season. He became offensive coordinator in 2014 and was named head coach in January 2020.
He was named the 2021 NCAC Coach of the Year and the Tigers staff claimed the 2022 NCAC Coaching Staff of the Year award after leading DePauw to its first and second NCAC titles. The 2021 and 2022 Tigers matched a school record nine wins and earned the program's first-ever NCAA win after DePauw defeated Rose-Hulman, 26-21, in the first round of the 2021 postseason. During Dietz's tenure as offensive coordinator, DePauw has compiled a 41-19 record and averaged 31.4 points per game. The 2015 Tigers set school records with 393 points (39.3/per game) and 4,879 total offense yards (487.9/game) before the 2016 team broke both marks, totaling 404 points (40.4/game) and 4,909 yards (490.9/game). Over a four-season stretch (2014-17), the Tigers compiled a 31-9 record including three consecutive 8-2 seasons for the first time in program history. Dietz, who coaches the quarterbacks and receivers, was the program's recruiting coordinator from 2012-18.
A 2004 Hanover College graduate and starting quarterback for two seasons, Dietz was named the school's Most Outstanding Athlete of the Decade (2000-09) and was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. He led Division III in total offense in 2003 with 380.5 yards per game. On Jan. 15, 2023 he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Covington (Ky.) Catholic High School.
