FINAL & THIRD-PLACE:
The 2019 NCAC Women's Tennis Championships came to a close on Sunday at the Indianapolis Racquet Club (Dean), with top-seeded Kenyon (18-3) capturing its third-straight conference title and 18th overall with a 5-3 victory over second-seeded Denison (13-9) in the championship match. With the win, the Ladies have earned the league's automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament.
Kenyon opened the tournament on Friday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over eighth-seeded Allegheny and advanced to the championship match with a 5-0 win over Oberlin in the semifinals on Saturday. Denison made its trek through the championship bracket with a 5-0 victory over seventh-seeded Ohio Wesleyan on Friday and a 5-0 victory over DePauw on Saturday.
In the consolation finals on Saturday, sixth-seeded Wooster took home fifth place with a 5-1 victory over fifth-seeded Wittenberg and Ohio Wesleyan claimed seventh in the final standings with a 5-0 win over Allegheny. Sunday's action also saw third-seeded DePauw defeat fourth-seeded Oberlin, 5-0, in the third-place match.
SEMIFINALS, FIFTH- & SEVENTH-PLACE:
The higher seeds held in the semifinals after day two of competition at the 2019 NCAC Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday.
In the semifinals match ups, top-seeded Kenyon captured a 5-0 victory over fourth-seeded Oberlin and No. 2 Denison claimed a 5-0 win over third-seeded DePauw. Sixth-seeded Wooster earned a 5-1 victory over fifth-seeded Wittenberg to claim fifth place in the tournament while seventh-seeded Ohio Wesleyan defeated eighth-seeded Allegheny, 5-0, to take seventh-place.
On Sunday, No. 3 DePauw will compete against No. 4 Oberlin for third-place, while No. 1 Kenyon will meet No. 2 Denison in the finals. The NCAC Champion will earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
QUARTERFINALS:
The seeds held after the first day of competition of the 2019 NCAC Women's Tennis Championships on Friday.
In the quarterfinals, top-seeded Kenyon earned a 5-0 victory over eighth-seeded Allegheny, while second-seeded Denison defeated seventh-seeded Ohio Wesleyan, 5-0, third-seeded DePauw claimed a 5-0 win over sixth-seeded Wooster and fourth-seeded Oberlin recorded a 5-3 victory over fifth-seeded Wittenberg.
On Saturday, No. 1 Kenyon will face No. 4 Oberlin and No. 2 Denison will take on No. 3 DePauw in the semifinals. Other matches on the day will include No. 5 Wittenberg playing No. 6 Wooster in the fifth-place match and No. 7 Ohio Wesleyan and No. 8 Allegheny competing for seventh-place.
On Sunday, the non-winning teams in the semifinals will compete for third-place, while the winners of the semifinal matches will meet in the finals with the winner earning the NCAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
PAIRINGS:
The 2019 NCAC Women's Tennis Championships will be held next weekend, April 26-28, at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. The tournament begins with quarterfinal matches on Friday, semifinal and fifth- and seventh-place matches on Saturday and the championship and third-place matches on Sunday. The first two days will begin with women’s matches at 9:00 a.m. and conclude with men’s matches at 1:00 p.m. The women’s championship match and third-place match will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, while the men’s championship match and third-place match will be played at 1:00 p.m.
Kenyon (3-0, 15-3) has emerged as the top seed in the women’s eight-team tournament and will open play on Friday morning against eighth-seeded Allegheny (0-3, 8-11), while second-seeded Denison (3-0, 11-8) will kick off tournament play against seventh-seeded Ohio Wesleyan (1-2, 3-15). The remaining opening round matches will feature No. 3 DePauw (2-1, 9-11) versus No. 6 Wooster (1-2, 11-5) and No. 4 Oberlin (2-1, 8-12) squaring off against No. 5 Wittenberg (0-3, 8-8).
