Clyde Morgan joined the Wabash College program as head track and field coach in July 2008, serving as only the third head coach of the program since World War II.
Morgan has continued the history of track and field success established by head coaches J. Owen Hunstman and continued by Robert H. Johnson. The Little Giants, under Morgan's tutelage, have won eight North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Men's Championships along with ten NCAC Outdoor Track and Field titles.The ten outdoor championship wins are the most in NCAC outdoor track and field history. Wabash most recently captured the 2024 men's outdoor title while adding ten all-conference honors and two event championships to the program's history. A total of 184 Little Giant student-athletes have earned individual conference championships with 573 receiving All-NCAC honors. Twenty-three Wabash competitors have been named a Conference Most Valuable Athlete, while Morgan and his Wabash staff have been recognized as the NCAC Staff of the Year 17 times. Morgan was elevated to Director of Wabash Track and Field and Cross Country Programs in 2018.
Morgan has produced 71 NCAA Division III National Track and Field Championship qualifiers with 39 All-Americans, three national champions, and two national second-place finishers at Wabash. Kevin McCarthy gave Morgan his first national champion athlete at Wabash by winning the mile run at the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. McCarthy also earned a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Jake Waterman added another national title by winning the 800-meter run at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championship meet in California. Waterman raced to an indoor title in the 800 in 2013 at the championship meet at North Central College.
Morgan has coached a total of 48 All-Americans, four national champions, four national runner-ups, 140 national qualifiers, 280 conference champions, 778 all-conference performers, 29 conference MVPs, nine DIII Indiana state champions, and 20 conference team championships throughout his career at both Wabash and Thiel. Morgan's student-athletes have been recognized for their work in the classroom, as well, with 41 earning Academic All-America and Scholar-Athlete honors. McCarthy received the NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship in 2012.
Morgan is a member of the USA Track and Field Coaches' Committee, working to develop current youth and collegiate coaches through a shadowing and mentoring program with Olympic- and World Championship-level coaches. The committee is also charged with keeping lines of communication open between college coaches and the USATF. He is also the chairperson of the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame Committee. Morgan holds honorary memberships with Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, the Wabash College Sphinx Club, and the Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies, where he serves as assistant director.
Morgan came to Wabash from Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, where he served as head track and field coach since January 2004. He guided the Tomcats to the 2004 men's conference championship in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, earning the conference Coach of the Year Award in the process. His 2008 men's team earned its highest finish in NCAA Championships competition, taking eighth place at the Indoor Nationals. Morgan was named the 2008 PAC and Mideast Regional Coach of the Year. He also holds a USATF Level 1 Track and Field certificate and is also certified in jump stretch band training. He was inducted into the Thiel Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.
Morgan served as the assistant coach at Thiel from 2000 to 2004 before taking over the program. Morgan also served as the director of minority affairs, coordinating and planning on-campus programs to promote diversity.
Morgan was named the USTFCCCA 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Great Lakes Region Men's Indoor Coach of the Year and 2011, 2012, and 2015 Great Lakes Region Outdoor Coach of the Year. He was also selected to attend the 2009 USA Track and Field Emerging Elite Coaching Camp, where he presented material on coaching hurdlers and sprinters. Morgan also currently serves on the USTFCCCA Division III Track and Field Hall of Fame Committee and was recently named to the USA Track and Field Coaches Committee and was selected as the USTFCCCA treasurer in 2017.
Morgan graduated from Thiel in 2000 with a bachelor of arts degree in graphic design and elementary education. A member of the dean's list, he was also the track team captain in 1997, 1998, and 1999. Morgan helped the Tomcats to PAC championships in 1996 and 1998 as a 400- and 110-meter hurdler and 1600-meter relay runner. He was an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles in 1996. Morgan was also a member of the Thiel football team, earning All-America Honorable Mention honors as a kick returner in 1997 and 1999. A three-time captain of the Tomcats' team, he was a two-time Second Team All-PAC free safety.
Morgan and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Crawfordsville. They have three children, sons Braylen and Ziair, and daughter, Ziah.

2024 - Wabash won its tenth NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship to set a new mark for the most victories by a team in outdoor competition in league history. His Little Giant squad turned in ten all-conference performances with two first-place finishes. Will Neubauer won the 800-meter run with teammate Haiden Diemer-McKinney close behind in second place. The foursome of Howie Steele, Nathan France, Diemer-McKinney, and Neubauer combined to win the 4x400-meter relay to seal the Little Giants' team title, earning Morgan and the rest of the coaches Staff of the Year honors. Wabash finished second at the indoor championships. Neubauer won the 800-meter indoor title with freshman David Adesanya placing second in the event. Neubauer, France, Adesanya, and Brayden Curnutt raced to first place in the distance medley relay to give the Little Giants a second victory at the indoor meet.
2023 - Wabash captured the 2023 NCAC Men's Indoor Track and Field title and finished second at the conference outdoor championships. The Little Giants scored 18 indoor all-conference performances and won three individual and two relay titles. Quinn Sholar received Indoor Men's Field Athlete of the Year honors and Haiden Diemer-McKinney was named the Men's Newcomer of the Year. Wabash picked up seven all-conference honors at the outdoor championship meet, including two individual victories. Diemer-McKinney qualified for the NCAA DIII Indoor and Outdoor National Championship meets, earning All-America honors with a third-place finish in the indoor 800-meter run. Reis Thomas joined Diemer-McKinney at the NCAA DIII Outdoor national meet after qualifying in the discus.
2022 - Wabash added two more track and field titles to its totals by capturing its eighth NCAC indoor and ninth NCAC outdoor championships. The Little Giants won six of the 18 overall men's indoor events and produced 19 all-conference top-three performances overall. Max Bigler won the heptathlon and the high jump to claim Field Athlete of the Year honors. Jose Franco was named the Sprint/Hurdles Athlete of the Year after finishing first in the 200-meter dash and second in the 400-meter dash. Wabash won its ninth outdoor men's conference title. The Little Giants scored 18 top-three finishes and all-conference performances, including three event championships. Coach Morgan and his staff were named both the indoor and outdoor conference coaches of the year for the 16th time overall.
2021 - A pandemic could not slow down the Wabash track and field team as the Little Giants captured their 18th NCAC title, winning the Outdoor Men's Conference Championship with a total of 203 points. The Little Giants turned in 19 All-NCAC performances and three individual first-place efforts. Brandon Peck was named the NCAC Field Athlete of the Year. Josh Wiggins qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished 12th overall at the championship meet. The 2021 Wabash track and field team was recognized by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as an All-Academic after the squad produced a 3.22 team grade point average. Five individuals --- Luke Bender, Thomas Joven, Tyler Ramsey, Howie Steele, and Wiggins --- were individually honored by the USTFCCCA as All-Academic Athletes.
2020 - Wabash won its seventh NCAC Indoor Track and Field men's championship thanks to 22 All-NCAC efforts, including 16 conference champions in individual events and relays. Senior Sam Henthorn was voted as the Men's Distance/Middle Distance Runner of the Year to go with his Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year Award from the fall. Junior Isaiah Campbell was selected as the Men's Field Athlete of the Year, while Morgan and his staff were awarded the Men's Coach of the Year Award. Senior RaShawn Jones and junior Josh Wiggins both qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 60-meter hurdles and were named All-Americans after the meet was canceled due to the COVID pandemic. Rising seniors Tyler Ramsey, and Josh Wiggins, rising junior Ethan Pine, rising sophomore Thomas Gastineau, and Wiggins all received All-Academic Athlete honors from the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
2019 - Wabash captured its sixth NCAC Indoor Track and Field title with a total of 21 All-NCAC performances. Brady Gossett earned NCAC Most Valuable Athlete honors in the sprints and hurdle events, while Preston Whaley received the NCAC Men's Newcomer of the Year Award after winning the triple jump. Whaley and RaShawn Jones both qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet, with Whaley earning All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 14.55 meters. The Little Giants added their seventh NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship trophy by posting five individual titles and 25 all-conference performances. Freshman Preston Whaley was named men's Field Athlete and Newcomer of the Year, while the Wabash coaching staff was honored as the Conference Staff of the Year. Whaley and Jones both qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship meet with Jones claiming fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles to earn All-America honors for the second consecutive year. Whaley, Jones, and Dominic Patacsil each earned All-Region honors from the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Tyler Ramsey and Josh Wiggins were joined by Patacsil and Whaley as members of the USTFCCCAA Division III All-Academic Team.
2018 - RaShawn Jones highlighted another successful season of track and field competition at Wabash by finishing fifth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship Meet. Jones claimed the conference title at the 2018 NCAC Outdoor Championship meet in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Austin Ellingwood added a conference title in the 400-meter dash as the Little Giants picked up 17 total all-conference awards and a second-place team finish. Wabash posted 16 individual All-NCAC performances at the indoor championship meet, with Ellingwood claiming an individual title in the 400-meter run along with a title effort joining Parker Redelman, Brady Gossett, and Josh Wiggins as the conference champions in the 4x200-meter relay to guide the Little Giants to a second-place finish in the team scoring.
2017 - Wabash captured its sixth NCAC Outdoor Track and Field title under Morgan. The Little Giants earned 24 All-NCAC honors with three individual conference champions. Mason McKinney was named NCAC Men's Mid-Distance/Distance Runner of the Year, while Morgan and his staff received Coach of the Year honors for the sixth time. Little Giants Hayden Baehl, Connor Stumm, and McKinney were named to the 2017 US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region Team. Wabash placed second in the NCAC indoor standings, finishing three points back from Ohio Wesleyan. The Little Giants picked up 20 All-NCAC awards and won three events at the championship meet. McKinney, Baehl, and Stumm were joined by RaShawn Jones and Cole Seward as All-Great Lakes Region honorees. Wabash earned All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA with McKinney and Dominic Patacsil receiving All-Academic Scholar Athlete designations.
2016 - Guided the Little Giants to 15th in the USTFCCA Program of the Year rankings... Coached All-American Matthew Dickerson Jr., the fifth-place finisher in the heptathlon at the 2016 NCAA DIII Indoor National Championship meet. Dickerson became the first Wabash College student-athlete to qualify for nationals in the heptathlon, and later became the first Little Giant to compete in the decathlon at the 2016 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships, joined by fellow competitor Adam Wadlington... Adam Togami joined the duo at the outdoor championships to earn All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a seventh-place finish... His Wabash teams placed second in both the indoor and outdoor NCAC championship meets. Morgan's Little Giants team was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
2015 - Coached All-American 60-meter hurdler Ronnie Posthauer, who finished third at the 2015 NCAA DIII Indoor National Championship meet with a time of 7.96 in the fastest race in that event in DIII Championship history... Three Little Giants earned All-America honors at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships. Christian Rhodes placed eighth in the pole vault, becoming the first Wabash All-American in that event. Nick Boyce and Adam Togami placed fourth and sixth, respectively, for the Little Giants in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to earn All-America honors. Wabash sent eight competitors to nationals, the most individuals to qualify in school history. Wabash captured its fifth consecutive NCAC indoor title, tying for the most consecutive wins in league history (Allegheny 2003-2007)... Seven Little Giants earned NCAC titles at the indoor championships, while a total of 28 Wabash athletes received All-NCAC honors. The Wabash track and field team was also recognized for its work in the classroom, earning All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA.
2014 - Coached All-American 4x400-meter relay team of Joey Conti, Joel Whittington, Sean Hildebrand, and Cole Hruskovich... Eleven of his Little Giants competed at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship meet --- Ronnie Posthauer (110-meter hurdles), Nick Boyce and Adam Togami (3000-meter steeplechase), Trevor Young (pole vault), Derek De St Jean (discus), and relay competitors Conti, Whittington, Hildebrand, and Hruskovich along with alternates Cole Seward and Jordan Smith... Young, Posthauer, and Nathan Mueller also qualified for the NCAA DIII Indoor Nationals... Led Wabash to its fourth consecutive NCAC indoor and outdoor conference championships... Twenty-eight scholar athletes earned indoor All-NCAC honors, while 30 received outdoor All-NCAC awards ... Billy McManus earned NCAC Men's Middle Distance/Distance Indoor MVP honors... Derek De St Jean was named the Indoor Men's Field Event MVP in addition to picking up Outdoor Field Event MVP honors... Morgan and his staff were voted as the NCAC Men's Indoor and Outdoor Staffs of the Year... Whittington, Togami, and Boyce also earned Scholar-Athlete accolades from the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
2013 - Coached NCAA national champion Jake Waterman (indoor 800-meters; second NCAA individual championship)...
