10736John DeVito
Head Coach

Alma Mater: Wittenberg '23
Years at Wittenberg: 2

John DeVito enters his second season with the Wittenberg Men’s and Women’s Tennis coaching staff, with the 2024-25 season marking his first as head coach. After it was announced that the programs would be eliminated due to budget cuts in September 2024, the University reversed course in March 2025 and reinstated the program thanks to the support and generosity of alumni. A few weeks later, DeVito was announced as the full-time head coach of the programs.

In DeVito's first year as a head coach, he guided the Tigers through a tumultuous year. Between the two Tigers teams, Wittenberg won just one match, but there were some individual bright spots, mostly provided by senior Caroline Sproule. She continued to produce wins while playing the No. 1 singles and doubles positions, advancing to the quarterfinals in the fall ITA Central Region Championships and eventually surpassing 100 victories in her collegiate career.

After graduating from Wittenberg in 2023, DeVito served as an assistant coach for both teams during the 2023-24 school year. The women’s team achieved records of 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) en route to a third-place finish in the final league standings. Caroline Sporule, Sophia Pischalko, and Kylie Wilson all earning All-NCAC honors following the season, and the Tiger coaching staff was named NCAC Women's Tennis Coaching Staff of the Year. On the men’s side, Ethan Libby earned All-NCAC honors.

From 2019 to 2023, DeVito was a member of the Wittenberg Men’s Tennis program, accumulating more than 50 career wins and receiving All-NCAC honors after his sophomore year. He graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education, and he currently serves as the Assistant Director of Career Engagement at COMPASS: Sweet Success Center. DeVito is a native of Canandaigua, NY, and he currently resides in Springfield.
