Barrett and Sheehan Named NFF Campbell Trophy Semifinalists

DePauw senior Danny Sheehan (St. Louis, MO/Chaminade) and Wooster senior Lake Barrett (Columbia, SC/Hammond School) were among the 156 semifinalists for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy, as announced by the organization on Wednesday morning.

Barrett currently sits atop Wooster's leaderboard in career extra-point percentage (99 percent; 84-of-85) and field-goal percentage (80 percent; 20-of-25). His 84 extra points are the fourth-most in program history as are his 20 career field goals. As a junior, Barrett became the first placekicker in program history to make over 40 extra-point tries in a season without a miss. His 71 points were the second-most among placekickers in single-season program history.

Sheehan is a kinesiology and religious studies major, appearing in all 12 games for the Tigers last season and each of the first four games so far in 2022. On Sept. 17 at Hiram, Sheehan scored a rushing touchdown while finishing the game with 23 rushing yards and 30 receiving yards, both career-best figures for the senior.

The NFF will announce the 12-14 Campbell Trophy finalists on October 26, and each finalist will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. One of the finalists will be named the winner of the Campbell Trophy at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner on December 6 and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000. Each school is permitted to nominate one student-athlete each year for consideration for the Campbell Trophy and NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class.
