60 NCAC Student-Athletes Named CSCAA All-Americans

The North Coast Athletic Conference recorded 60 All-Americans and three major award winners, recently announced by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

Kenyon junior Israel Zavaleta (Mexico City, Mexico/Universidad del Valle de Mexico) was named the 2023 CSCAA Division III Men's National Diver of the Year for the second-consecutive season after recording a new NCAA and meet record in the one-meter competition (602) and completing the sweep winning the three-meter board (595.15). Kenyon diving coach Ron Kontura was tabbed the national Men's Diving Coach of the Year after guiding Zavaleta to a sweep of the boards for the second-consecutive season, while Denison's Gregg Parini was selected the CSCAA Division III Women's Coach of the Year after guiding the Big Red to a first-place finish.

On the men's side, Emory collected the most All-American certificates with 18 (14 first team, 4 second team), while Kenyon had the second-most with 16 overall (14, 2), and Denison recorded 13 (6, 7). For the women, Denison captured the most All-America honors with 18 overall (15, 3), while Kenyon collected 13 (11, 2).

The awards were determined by a nationwide vote of CSCAA-member Division III head swimming coaches and head diving coaches. All-Americans are selected on the basis of their finish at the NCAA Championships and a team's current membership with the CSCAA.  Only student-athletes who competed in their championship finals are eligible for All-America Honors. NCAA relays & individuals must score in the top 8 to earn first-team honors while those who finish ninth through sixteenth earn second-team honors.
