Four Named CSC Football Academic All-Americans

Ohio Wesleyan junior Drew Thornton (Powell, OH/Olentangy Liberty), Wooster senior Lake Barrett (Columbia, SC/Hammond School) and Wabash seniors Penn Stoller (Cissna Park, IL/Cissna Park) and Joe Mullin (Indianapolis, IN/Roncalli) were voted College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-Americans, as announced by the organization on Tuesday, January 23. Barrett and Stoller were tabbed as members of the first team, while Mullin and Thornton earned second-team honors.
 
Barrett collects his third Academic All-American honor after earning a second-team selection in 2022 and first-team laurels in 2021. The Biology and Education major was named the 2023 NCAC Special Teams Player of the Year and was one of 10 finalists for the Fred Mitchell Award out of a pool of 700 eligible colleges. He was named a CSC Academic All-District selection and received D3football.com All-Region first-team honors this past season. The four-time all-conference performer was second in the league this past season with eight made field goals on ten attempts with his longest being 42 yards. He graduates from Wooster first all-time in program history with 29 field goals and is the Fighting Scots all-time leader with a 99.4 success rate on extra points and was a remarkable 155-for-156 over his career, making the second-most extra points in program history.
 
Stoller earns CSC Academic All-America honors for the first time in his career. The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics major was named a CSC Academic All-District selection and received D3football.com All-Region first-team honors for the second consecutive season. The senior tight end is a two-time All-NCAC honoree (2022, 2023) and 2022 D3football.com All-America Second Team selection and a 2023 preseason All-America pick. He caught 34 passes for 460 yards and six touchdowns this season and led the NCAC in touchdown receptions by a tight end. His six touchdown catches ranked eighth among conference players and second for Wabash. He finished third on the Little Giants reception yardage list this season.
 
Mullin garners his second Academic All-American honor after also earning a first-team selection in 2022. The English major earned a CSC Academic All-District selection and was named to the D3football.com All-Region second team for the second consecutive season. He was a 2023 All-NCAC first-team honoree and was a part of the Little Giant offense that led the conference in rushing with an average of 235.9 yards per game, the 16th-best average among Division III teams during the regular season. Wabash led the conference and ranked 13th among DIII programs in total offense, averaging 493.2 yards per game. The Little Giants' offensive line ranked third in the conference in sacks allowed, averaging 1. 5 a contest.
 
Thornton earns Academic All-America honors for the first time in his career. The Exercise Science major earned a CSC Academic All-District selection and was named to the
the D3football.com All-Region second team this past season. Thornton was second in the NCAC in tackles (8.4/game) and tied for second in fumbles forced (2), while leading the Battling Bishops with 84 total tackles. He was named to the All-NCAC first-team this season after a third-team selection in 2022.
