John Carroll’s Montgomery Signs with Tennessee Titans

NASHVILLE, TNTyren Montgomery, a recent graduate and former wide receiver at John Carroll University, has signed with the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League.

Montgomery departs John Carroll as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (2,599) and touchdowns (32). In 2025, he set two JCU single-season records with 119 receptions and 1,528 receiving yards while hauling in 15 touchdown catches. Nationally, his efforts stood out, as he ranked second in receiving yards, seventh in receptions per game (8.5) and ninth in receiving TD’s. Montgomery’s 17 touchdown catches in 2024 remain a program record.

A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Montgomery earned D3football.com First Team All-American, AFCA Second Team All-American, AP Second Team All-American, and First Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in 2025.

Montgomery's path to the NFL was unconventional. He initially enrolled at LSU as a basketball player before returning to Texas to be closer to his mother, Tara, as she courageously battled cancer. He took up football, played flag football, and then tried football at Nicholls State before landing at John Carroll.

After drawing NFL scouts to JCU practices throughout the season, Montgomery showcased his abilities at the America Bowl and the Senior Bowl, where he caught the attention of NFL personnel executives.

JCU Athletic Hall of Famer David Ziegler '00, '07G serves as Assistant General Manager with the Titans.

"Congratulations to Ty and his family on signing an NFL contract. The Titans are getting a great player, fierce competitor, and a wonderful person," said Vice President of Athletics and Head Football Coach Brian Polian. "We are very excited for Ty and know that he is going to take advantage of this opportunity. We are also incredibly proud as we have had the privilege to witness the amount of hard work and dedication he's invested into this dream. His journey is just beginning, and we will support and cheer for him every step of the way because he is forever a member of the John Carroll family."

Montgomery joins London Fletcher '97 and Tom Arth '03 as JCU alumni to reach the NFL, following Larry Wanke's selection as Mr. Irrelevant in 1991.
