MUNCIE, IN – The 2026 Monon Bell Classic between DePauw University and Wabash College will be played at a neutral site for the first time in 104 years. The 132nd meeting in the storied rivalry, and the 94th contested for possession of the Monon Bell, will be held at Ball State University's Scheumann Stadium in Muncie on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026, with kickoff set for just after 1 p.m.
The move to a neutral site was prompted by the demolition of DePauw's Blackstock Stadium, which is being rebuilt as part of the Blackstock Stadium and Athletics Performance Center, slated to open in fall 2028.
"We're thrilled to partner with Ball State as the host for one of the most storied rivalries in college sports," said DePauw Director of Athletics
Stevie Baker-Watson. "Scheumann Stadium will provide both fan bases with an excellent experience while maintaining the traditions that have become so important to both institutions."
"On behalf of Ball State athletics, I am proud to open Scheumann Stadium gates and serve as the neutral-site host for the 132nd Monon Bell Classic," said Ball State Director of Athletics
Jeff Mitchell. "The annual clash between DePauw and Wabash is recognized as a cornerstone of Indiana sports history and is one of college football's greatest rivalry games. We are honored to host this historic event in Muncie and are thrilled to welcome fans from across the state to our beautiful Ball State campus and experience the passion and tradition of the Monon Bell Classic."
The rivalry dates to 1890, and this will only be the eighth time the game has been played outside of Greencastle or Crawfordsville. Games from 1915-17 and 1919-21 were played at Washington Park in Indianapolis, and the 1922 meeting was held at Irwin Field in Indianapolis. Wabash won that contest, 30-0, marking the Little Giants' last neutral-site meeting with DePauw until this year.
Wabash holds a 63-59-9 edge in the all-time series, including a 44-43-6 advantage in games played for possession of the Monon Bell, following DePauw's 41-20 win in Crawfordsville last November. The 300-pound locomotive bell, donated by the Monon Railroad, has been awarded to the series winner since 1932. Wabash owns a 4-2-1 record in neutral-site meetings against DePauw.
Scheumann Stadium seats 22,500 and general admission tickets are $50 each plus Ticketmaster fees and are scheduled to go on sale in September.
The 2026 game will mark the sixth consecutive year the Monon Bell Classic has been streamed live on multiple platforms by ISC Sports Network.
