Ohio Wesleyan Volleyball Earns NCAC Tourney Title

GRANVILLE, OH - No. 2-seeded Ohio Wesleyan (16-12) captured the 2024 NCAC Volleyball Tournament title on Saturday, November 16, with a 3-2 upset over top-seeded Denison (13-14) in the tourney championship final in Granville, Ohio. OWU earns its third overall conference tournament crown, and first since 1996.
 
As tournament champions, the Battling Bishops earned the NCAC's automatic bid into the 2024 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament. Ohio Wesleyan will make its first appearance in the national tournament. The entire bracket will be revealed on Monday, November 18, at 1:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.

OHIO WESLEYAN (16-12) 3, DENISON (13-14) 2, (23-25, 25-9, 26-24, 31-33, 15-11)
  • In a highly competitive tournament final, Ohio Wesleyan saw four hitters record double digit kills with senior Claire Solberg (Huron, OH/Huron) tallying a game-high 14 kills on 30 attempts and just four errors to record a .333 hitting percentage. The 2023 Newcomer of the Year, Natalie Dieball (Cincinnati, OH/Lakota East), notched one-of-three OWU double-doubles in the win as she collected 13 kills to go along with 10 digs, two aces, and six blocks. Senior Ava Kutilek (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) recorded 12 kills on 27 attempts and just two errors to earn a team-high .370 hitting percentage. Kutilek, along with Soleberg, recorded a game-high eight blocks each. Sophomore Mason Campbell (Columbus, OH/Pickerington Central) collected a double-double in the win as she notched 10 kills and 18 digs as well as four aces and one block.
  • Junior Lily Bechina (Chicago, IL/Jones College Prep) propelled the OWU offense to victory after recording a double-double with 49 assists and 23 digs in the five set match.
  • OWU sophomore Avery Krause (Cleveland, OH/Holy Name) and junior Bella Guzzetta(Boca Raton, FL/Spanish River) also reached double-digit figures with 19 and 12 digs, respectively.
  • Denison was led by junior Alice Kempf (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart Academy), who recorded 42 assist and 25 digs, junior Saide Habeeb (Independence, OH/Independence), who tallied a game-high 26 digs, and sophomores Claire Hamilton (Lower Merion, PA/Lower Merion) and Ayla Dunbar (Ann Arbor, MI/Skyline), who collected 13 kills each.
  • Additionally, the 33-31 fourth-set victory for the Big Red is the highest scoring set in NCAC Volleyball Tournament history.
The NCAC All-Tournament team was also revealed at the conclusion of the tournament. Seven members from Denison, DePauw, Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg made up the field. Ohio Wesleyan’s Solberg was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
