Denison Captures NCAC Volleyball Title, Enters Tourney as Top Seed

CLEVELAND, OH – The Denison Big Red (6-1) cap the 2024 NCAC regular season with their second North Coast Athletic Conference volleyball championship, and their first since 2021.
 
Wittenberg holds a league-leading 26 conference crowns with the most recent coming in 2022. Allegheny holds five conference titles, while Hiram, Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan join Denison with two championships. DePauw captured its first title in 2023; Wooster earned the inaugural conference trophy in 1984.
 
DePauw, Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg finished the regular season knotted in a three-way tie for second in the standings with identical 5-2 records. The trio was followed in the league standings by Hiram (3-4), Oberlin (2-5) and Wooster and Kenyon (1-6).

As league champions, Denison has earned the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the 2024 NCAC Volleyball tournament final four. The tournament is set to take place November 12-16. The quarterfinals will take place at the number three and four seeds on Tuesday, Nov. 12, while the Big Red will host the semifinals and championship match, Friday - Saturday, Nov. 15-16.
 
In the quarterfinal matchups, No. 6 Oberlin travels to No. 3 DePauw, while No. 4 Wittenberg hosts No. 5 Hiram. Both matches are set to play at 7:00 p.m. During the regular season, the Indiana Tigers defeated the Yeowomen in straight sets, while the Ohio Tigers edged the Terriers 3-1.
 
In the semifinal round, top-seeded Denison will square off against the winner of the Wittenberg versus Hiram quarterfinal at 4:00 p.m., while No. 2 Ohio Wesleyan awaits the winner of the  DePauw versus Oberlin quarterfinal for a 6:00 p.m. showdown.
 
The championship match will be contested in Granville as the semifinal winners will compete for the tournament title and receive the NCAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
TOURNEY NOTES: Wittenberg is the three-time defending champion after capturing its league-leading 27th NCAC tournament title in 2023. Allegheny (1985, 1988-91) owns five NCAC tourney titles, while Kenyon (1986-87) and Ohio Wesleyan (1994, ‘96) each hold a pair of titles. DePauw captured its first tournament title in 2019, Hiram claimed the 2006 title and Wooster earned the inaugural tournament crown in 1984 ... Wittenberg made its way through the 2023 tournament bracket as the No. 3 seed by knocking off Denison, 3-0, in the quarterfinals, Ohio Wesleyan, 3-1, in the semifinals and DePauw, 3-2, in the championship match.
