#4 WITTENBERG (6-5-5) 2, #1 DENISON (10-5-3) 1
  • Fourth-seeded Wittenberg upset top-seeded Denison 2-1 to advance to the tournament final of the NCAC Women's Soccer Tourney.
  • The Tigers were first to score after a quick goal by senior Chamberlain Browning (Troy, OH/Troy) off an assist by first-year Carloine Stupp (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) at the five minute mark.
  • Despite a scoreless first period for the Big Red, Denison's offense was in control. During the first 45 minutes of action, the Big Red fired off 11 shots, compared to the Tigers' three. However, Wittenberg sophomore Lily Winkle (Cynthiana, KY/Harrison County) was a force in goal as she recorded seven saves to keep Denison off the board.
  • Two minutes into the second half, Browning would strike again to extend the Tigers' lead, scoring what would end up being the game winner.
  • Denison responded with a goal in the 60th minute from senior Caroline Flynn (Darien, CT/Greenwich), thanks to a helper from classmate Sophia Connell (Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's School).
  • The Big Red continued to attack offensively, firing five shots in the final 24 minutes. However, Winkle made another save in the 75th minute to keep Denison from scoring the equalizer. The Wittenberg defense would then fend off four more Denison attempts before the end of regulation.
