Denison's Brown & Oberlin’s Hill Secure Heptathlon & Pentathlon Titles

GAMBIER, OH -- The 2024 NCAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Combined Events Championships were held on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 17-18, at Kenyon College. Oberlin senior Hayden Hill (View Park, CA/Marlborough School) won the pentathlon with 3,139 points, while Denison senior Jacob Brown (Dover, MA/Dover-Sherborn) won the heptathlon with 4,895 total points.
 
Hill claimed the pentathlon victory after placing first in the high jump (1.58m; 5’ 02.25), shot put (11.11m; 36’ 05.50”) and 800-meter run (2:31.49), claiming fourth in the long jump (4.77m; 15’ 07.75”) and earning fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.32 seconds). Brown collected the heptathlon win after earning a first-place finish in the in the long jump (6.52m; 21’ 0.4.75”) and shot put (12.29m; 40’ 04.00”), claiming runner-up honors in the 60-meter hurdles (8.81), high jump (1.85m; 6’ 00.75”), pole vault (4.03m; 13’ 02.50”) and 1000-meter run (2:54.42), while also capturing third in the 60-meter run (7.34).

Other top finishes in the pentathlon events went to Wooster junior Daysia Hargrave (Orrville, OH/Orrville), who finished the 60-meter hurdles in 9.05 seconds and DePauw junior Katie Moore (Lawrenceville, IL/Lawrenceville), who posted the furthest distance in the long jump at 4.96 meters (16’ 03.25). Two first-place finishes in the heptathlon events went to DePauw junior Daniel Jansen (Okawville, IL/ Okawville), who crossed the line in 8.54 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and posted a height of 1.88 meters (6’ 02.00”) in the high jump. Ohio Wesleyan freshman Michael Strange (High Bridge, NJ/Voorhees) earned the win in the 60-meter dash after crossing the line in 7.19 seconds, while Wittenberg senior Sam Callinan (Kettering, OH/Kettering Fairmont) posted a first-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 4.13 meters (13’ 06.50”) and Kenyon sophomore Joshua Greville (Kane, PA/Kane Area) crossed the line first in the 1000-meter run in a time of 2:52.63.

The 2024 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24, back at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. Total team points from the combined events will be factored into next weekend's results toward the final team standings. After the pentathlon, Oberlin has earned 11 points, followed by Wittenberg (9), DePauw (8), Wooster (6), Ohio Wesleyan (5). Following the completion of the heptathlon, Denison currently has 10 points, while Wittenberg (9), DePauw (8), Ohio Wesleyan (7), Kenyon (4) and Wooster (1) all scored team points.
