GAMBIER, OH -- Wittenberg won its third overall league title, first since 1997, at the 2024 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Kenyon's Toan Indoor Track in Gambier, Ohio. The Tigers accumulated 130 points to win the team title, while Wabash finished second with 114 total points. Oberlin finished third with 103 points, followed by Wooster in fourth (90), Denison in fifth (87), DePauw in sixth (64), Ohio Wesleyan in seventh (60), Kenyon in eighth (48), and Hiram in ninth (6).
2024 NCAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year Award Winners:
Men's Field & Newcomer of the Year: King Jeju, Wooster
Wooster first-year King Jeju (Johannesburg, South Africa/Silver Oaks International) earned newcomer of the year honors as well as the league's top award in field events after earning four all-NCAC honors. He claimed the NCAC crown in the long jump with a leap of 7.19 meters to break the record of 7.18 meters set by Denison's Scott Shorney in 1988. The first-year also placed first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.28 seconds. The Johannesburg, South Africa native made his way to the podium in the triple jump (13.71 meters) and 60 meter dash (6.94), placing second and third, respectively.
Men's Sprint/Hurdles: Kambi Obioha, Oberlin
Oberlin junior Kambi Obioha (Wauconda, IL/Northridge Preparatory) claimed three All-NCAC honors. Individually, Obioha finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.46. The junior, along with teammates Armand Andry (Chicago, IL/Lincoln Park), a first-year and juniors Sam Fechner (Hamburg, Germany/Trinity-Pawling School), and Cole Fuller (Chicago, IL/Latin School of Chicago), won the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in 3:20.13. Obioha, along with sophomore Liam Newman (Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee), first-year Piers Shirk (University Place, WA/Curtis Senior), and junior Walter Moak (Charlottesville, VA/Western Albemarle) posted a 10:22.59 in the distance medley relay to finish second.
Men's Distance/Middle Distance: Will Callender, Wooster
Wooster junior Will Callender (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) earned All-NCAC honors in two events to earn the NCAC Distance Athlete of the Year award. The junior placed first in the 5,000 meters after crossing the line in 14:56.50 and took second in the 3,000 meters, breaking the tape in 8:39.94.
Men's Coaching Staff of the Year: Wittenberg
The Wittenberg Tigers were named the 2024 NCAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time since Parris Hilliard took over the helm in 2015. Hilliard and his staff, Alexia Page-Boyd, Josh Lynch, Blaine Brokschmidt, and Christ Marco guided the Tigers to their first title since 1997, and third overall after earning eight All-NCAC performances including three NCAC event titles.
