Denison Baseball Captures NCAA Regional Title, Advances to Super Regionals 5/19/2024 3:03:06 PM Share: GRANVILLE, OH -- Denison made history on Sunday afternoon, defeating Rowan 13-0, to clinch the program's first-ever NCAA Baseball Regional title. The Big Red went a perfect 3-0 in the Granville, Ohio Regional, beating Rowan twice, 26-7, 13-0, and Hanover once, 15-1, to extend a memorable 2024 season into the fourth weekend of May. The team has also won three-straight games in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Denison will be 1 of 16 teams remaining in the NCAA Division III National Championship bracket by the end of the day on Sunday. Next week the Big Red will compete in a best-of-three series against Birmingham-Southern while making the program's first Super Regional appearance. Game 6: Denison 13, Rowan 0 Denison started the championship final with three runs in the first inning after Erik Sundgren (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) reached base on a field's choice to plate the Big Red's first run, Cade Nowik (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) recorded an RBI after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Owen Wilson (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg) drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI. After two scoreless innings, a Noah Leib (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) double to right center and a Jake Welsch (Glenmoore, PA/Downingtown West) single up the middle would plate two runs in the fourth inning for a 5-0 Denison lead. A Colin Ravin (Charlotte, NC/Providence Day School) RBI double to right center and a Jack Lutte (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) RBI double down the right field line would add another two runs to the scoreboard for the Big Red, going into the sixth up 7-0. A fielding error by Rowan in the seventh would plate two of Denison's three runs in the sixth inning, and a Ravin RBI single up the middle would give the Big Red a 10-0 lead. Denison would add three more runs to the scoreboard in the seventh, thanks to a Leib RBI double, Wilson collecting a bases loaded walk and Ravin being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Leib went 4-for-5 with two RBI and four scored runs to lead the Denison offense, while Lutte, Ravin and Welsch added two hits apiece and combined for five RBI and two scored runs. Peter Lemke (Geneva, IL/St. Francis) earned the win on the mound for the Big Red, scattering six hits through seven innings of work while striking out three.
