Denison Baseball Captures NCAA Regional Title, Advances to Super Regionals

GRANVILLE, OH -- Denison made history on Sunday afternoon, defeating Rowan 13-0, to clinch the program's first-ever NCAA Baseball Regional title.

The Big Red went a perfect 3-0 in the Granville, Ohio Regional, beating Rowan twice, 26-7, 13-0, and Hanover once, 15-1, to extend a memorable 2024 season into the fourth weekend of May. The team has also won three-straight games in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Denison will be 1 of 16 teams remaining in the NCAA Division III National Championship bracket by the end of the day on Sunday. Next week the Big Red will compete in a best-of-three series against Birmingham-Southern while making the program's first Super Regional appearance.

Game 6: Denison 13, Rowan 0
  • Denison started the championship final with three runs in the first inning after Erik Sundgren (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) reached base on a field's choice to plate the Big Red's first run, Cade Nowik (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) recorded an RBI after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Owen Wilson (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg) drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI.
  • After two scoreless innings, a Noah Leib (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) double to right center and a Jake Welsch (Glenmoore, PA/Downingtown West) single up the middle would plate two runs in the fourth inning for a 5-0 Denison lead.
  • A Colin Ravin (Charlotte, NC/Providence Day School) RBI double to right center and a Jack Lutte (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) RBI double down the right field line would add another two runs to the scoreboard for the Big Red, going into the sixth up 7-0.
  • A fielding error by Rowan in the seventh would plate two of Denison's three runs in the sixth inning, and a Ravin RBI single up the middle would give the Big Red a 10-0 lead.
  • Denison would add three more runs to the scoreboard in the seventh, thanks to a Leib RBI double, Wilson collecting a bases loaded walk and Ravin being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • Leib went 4-for-5 with two RBI and four scored runs to lead the Denison offense, while Lutte, Ravin and Welsch added two hits apiece and combined for five RBI and two scored runs.
  • Peter Lemke (Geneva, IL/St. Francis) earned the win on the mound for the Big Red, scattering six hits through seven innings of work while striking out three.
