The opening half featured chances for both sides, with John Carroll forcing three early saves from Carleton goalkeeper Avery Trapp on attempts by junior Julia Niehaus (Olmsted Falls, OH/Magnificat), and seniors Kathryn Shaffer (Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day), and Emma West (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) within the first 12 minutes of the opening frame. While first-year Brooke Berkowitz (Avon Lake, OH/Saint Joseph Academy) knocked one on frame in the 27th minute, forcing Trapp to make another stop. Carleton generated sustained pressure of its own, putting multiple shots on frame and earning several corners, but JCU junior goalkeeper Madeline Martin (Huntsburg, OH/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) kept the Blue Streaks within reach with a series of early stops. John Carroll continued to push forward, earning a corner and several free kicks, yet Carleton’s backline held strong to take the one-goal advantage into halftime. John Carroll pushed hard throughout the second half in search of an equalizer, generating long stretches of possession and earning a series of throw-ins and set-piece opportunities deep in Carleton territory. The Blue Streaks produced several quality looks, including second-half shots from senior Meredith Coloian (Avon, OH/Avon) and multiple pushes into the box, but were unable to solve a steady Carleton backline. The Knights threatened on the counter, forcing Martin into key saves. Both teams battled through a physical final 20 minutes, but neither side added to the scoring. Despite John Carroll’s sustained pressure, highlighted by a late Coloian chance in the 89th minute, the Knights held firm to preserve their 1-0 lead. John Carroll’s Martin took the loss after making seven saves in net.
