Men’s Basketball – Luke Chicone, John Carroll
John Carroll graduate student guard Luke Chicone (Mentor, OH/Mentor) led the Blue Streaks to a 2-0 start after averaging 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. Chicone opened the week with a game-high 22 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block in a 100-96 win over Olivet. He followed with 19 points, seven boards, six assists, and two steals in a 103-88 victory at Heidelberg. For his efforts, the guard earned a selection to the All-Tournament Team at Heidelberg’s Ron Linhart Memorial Classic and helped guide JCU to its first back-to-back 100-point efforts to open a season since 2021-22. On the week, Chicone totaled 41 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists, four steals, and one block.
Women’s Basketball – Macy Miller, Ohio Wesleyan
Ohio Wesleyan junior forward Macy Miller (Marysville, OH/Milford Center Fairbanks) helped guide the Battling Bishops to a 2-1 week with wins over Otterbein (72-62) and No. 23-ranked Hope (65-62), along with a road loss to No. 18/21 Calvin (70-45), after averaging 17.0 points per game on 58 percent shooting from the floor. The junior posted double-doubles in two of the three contests, opening the season with 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal against the Cardinals. Miller added 10 points and three rebounds in the matchup against the Knights before closing the week by tying her career high with 25 points and grabbing a season-high 14 boards on 9-of-13 shooting in the victory over the Flying Dutch. For the week, Miller totaled 51 points, 28 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks.
Football (Offense) – Nick Semptimphelter, John Carroll
John Carroll graduate student quarterback Nick Semptimphelter (Franklin, TN/Battle Ground Academy) led the Blue Streaks to a 48-21 win at Denison after throwing for 297 yards and three touchdowns while completing 20-of-26 passes. With the win, Semptimphelter helped JCU secure the outright NCAC title and punch its ticket to the NCAA Division III Football Championships. The Franklin, Tennessee native enters the postseason ranked first in the NCAA, regardless of Division, with an 80.0 percent completion percentage and fifth in Division III in pass efficiency at 194.6.
Football (Defense) – Chris Green, DePauw
DePauw sophomore defensive lineman Chris Green (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) anchored the Tigers’ defensive front in a 41-20 win at Wabash, recording three tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss totaling 14 yards, all of which came on sacks. The sophomore also added a quarterback hurry and helped lead a dominant defensive effort that limited the Little Giants to a season low in total points and just 32 rushing yards on 30 carries while finishing with six sacks as a unit. With the win, DePauw captured the 131st Monon Bell rivalry game, a must-win contest that clinched the program's berth into the NCAA Championships.
Men’s Swimming & Diving – Hayden Price, Wooster
Wooster first-year Hayden Price (Canfield, OH/Canfield) was a triple winner in the Fighting Scots' 157-131 victory over Grove City, posting wins in the 100 (51.32) and 200 (1:57.57) backstrokes and the 400 individual medley (4:20.54). The rookie edged the Wolverines’ Owen Hancock (51.49) for the 100 back title, then pulled away to win the 200 back by more than six seconds. Additionally, Price’s 51.32 in the 100 back ranks as the fifth-fastest time in program history and stands as Wooster’s top mark in the event since 2021.
Women’s Swimming & Diving – Quinn Brown, Denison
Denison senior Quinn Brown (Portland, OR/Grant) helped guide the Big Red to a 198-61 win over John Carroll on Saturday after earning victories and NCAA B-cut marks in both the 200 (1:51.69) and 500 (5:00.08) freestyles. The senior also anchored the winning 200 medley relay, joining classmate Kayla Tehrani (Aspen, CO/Aspen) and first-years Rinka Yoshida (Sunnyvale, CA/Homestead) and Sofia Keller (Branchville, NJ/Pope John XXIII) to post a time of 1:50.03.
Milestones & Records (Nov. 10-16)
Denison, Football – Sophomore quarterback Tyler Green (Concord, NC/Cannon) became the Big Red’s single-season passing yards leader during Saturday’s 48-21 loss to John Carroll. Green reached the mark in the third quarter and finishing the day 35-for-59 for 407 yards and two touchdowns to close the season with 3,440 yards. The sophomore also moved into second all-time for single-season passing touchdowns with 29 and set the program’s single-season completions record with 309.
Denison, Women’s Basketball – The Big Red opened the season 4-0 for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign, highlighted by junior guard Abby Cooch’s (Clifton, VA/Bishop Ireton) career-high 29-point performance in a 77-73 win over Transylvania. Cooch hit multiple three-pointers and knocked down key free throws in the closing minutes to secure the win.
DePauw, Football – The Tigers’ senior class won its fourth-straight Monon Bell game on Saturday, marking the program’s first four-year sweep of the rivalry since 2000. The Tigers’ senior class improved to 39-5, tying the class of 2024 for the most wins in four years in program history … Senior wide receiver Robby Ballentine (Crown Point, IN/Andrean) broke the NCAC career receptions record on Saturday, finishing the game with 244 career catches to surpass Brian Hunca’s previous mark of 241 (2013-16); earlier this season, Ballentine also set the conference career touchdown receptions record and now has 53 heading into postseason play … Senior punter Buddy Gomez (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) tied the program’s single-game punting average record (minimum five punts), averaging 49.8 yards on five punts in the win over Wabash … Junior kicker Matthew Berry (Jacksonville, FL/Bolles School) broke DePauw’s career extra-points record on Saturday, surpassing Marko Adams’ mark of 130 (2013-16) and now totaling 133 … Sophomore quarterback Scott Ballentine (Crown Point, IN/Andrean) passed for 328 yards in the Monon Bell victory, marking the third-most by a DePauw quarterback in the series since 1952.
Oberlin, Men’s Basketball – Senior center Milun Micanovic (Podgorica, Montenegro/Western Reserve Academy) recorded his 11th career double-double on Saturday, posting 16 points and a career-tying 17 rebounds in the Yeomen’s 72-62 win over Sarah Lawrence.
Ohio Wesleyan, Football – Senior Josh Hurst (Port Clinton, OH/Port Clinton) broke the Battling Bishops’ career receptions record on Saturday, finishing the game with seven catches to reach 200 for his career and surpass Calvin Cagney’s previous mark of 198 (2011-14).
Wabash, Football – Junior wide receiver Luke Adams (Sullivan, IN/Sullivan) recorded the second-most receiving yards in Monon Bell history by a Little Giant, finishing with nine catches for 189 yards, including a 42-yard reception and two additional grabs of 30-plus yards.
