Wooster Women’s Lacrosse Falls in Second Round of NCAA Tourney

WOOSTER, OH - Wooster (17-4) dropped a tough 23-7 loss to No. 21 ranked University of Chicago (13-4) in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday, May 10, at John P. Papp Stadium in Wooster, Ohio.
 
The Fighting Scots concluded a strong 2025 campaign that included making history the day before, as the team collected the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win.

Second Round - UCHICAGO 23, WOOSTER 7
  • Wooster faced a formidable challenge with nationally ranked UChicago in the NCAA second round. Despite the scoreline, the Fighting Scots showed fight throughout, capitalizing on a handful of offensive opportunities and producing strong efforts in the midfield, while notching goals in all four quarters. Wooster was ultimately overwhelmed by UChicago’s depth and pace.
  • The Fighting Scots struggled to find their rhythm early, conceding the game’s first nine goals and trailing 11-3 at the end of the opening quarter. Junior Sophia Mellis (Wexford, PA/Oakland Catholic) led Wooster with two first-quarter goals, while junior Lizzie Hardy (Gibsonia, PA/Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh) added a free-position goal.
  • In the second quarter, Wooster held UChicago to three goals, while Fighting Scot senior Kaitlyn McBride (Westerville, OH/Westerville South) and first-year Cassidy Driscoll (Irvine, CA/Orange Lutheran) each tallied a goal to head into the half down 14-5.
  • After the break, the Maroons netted three unanswered goals, before junior Bella Woodbury (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) would give Wooster its sixth goal of the game.
  • The final 15 minutes of action was dominated by UChicago scoring five more goals, while Fighting Scot first-year Mizan Jacobs (Santa Fe, NN/Santa Fe Preparatory) netted the team’s final goal with 5:23 remaining in regulation.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Audrey Richardson (Southborough, MA/Algonquin Regional) faced heavy pressure from the start, finishing with eight saves, including several from point-blank range.
