Game 1: Denison 17, Belhaven University (MS) 3
  • Denison baseball unleashed a relentless offensive attack and steady scoring across five innings to dominate Belhaven.
  • The Big Red set the tone early with a three-run first inning. Senior Jake Blozy (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) delivered a two-run triple to right center, plating junior Erik Sundgren (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) and senior Eric Colaco (Richfield, OH/Revere). Sophomore Jack Rollo (Chesterfield, MO/Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School) followed with a groundout to short that brought Blozy home for a quick 3-0 lead.
  • Denison kept the pressure on in the second. Junior Max Fishbein (Atlanta, GA/Druid Hills) came around to score on a double from Sundgren, and Blozy struck again with a two-run single, driving in Sundgren and first-year Eron Vega (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) to extend the lead to 6-0.
  • Belhaven cut into the deficit with two unearned runs in the fifth, but Denison responded immediately with a three-run frame. Rollo executed a bunt single that scored Colaco after a defensive miscue, and Fishbein singled up the middle to drive in both Rollo and Blozy, stretching the lead to 9-2.
  • The Big Red poured it on in the sixth. Blozy came through yet again, ripping a two-run single to score Colaco and Sundgren. Later in the inning, Nowik grounded into a double play, but Blozy crossed the plate on the play to make it 12-2.
  • After Belhaven added a run in the top of the seventh, Denison answered with four more. Sophomore Jack Lutte (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) launched a solo home run to right, and Blozy and Rollo delivered RBI hits. The final blow came in the eighth, when Sundgren singled through the right side to bring in Vega for Denison’s 17th and final run.
  • Blozy led the way with a monster day at the plate, going 5-for-5 with seven RBI and four runs scored. Sundgren added four hits, two RBI, and scored four times, while Rollo and Colaco each contributed three hits of their own with Rollo posting four RBI and Colaco scoring four runs.
  • On the mound, the Big Red held Belhaven to just three runs, only one of which was earned, backed by solid defense and timely pitching to secure another commanding win. Senior Nick Falter (Powell, OH/Olentangy Liberty) picked up the win, scattering four hits over 5.0 innings of work, while striking out eight of the 23 batters he faced.
