DELAWARE, OH -- The Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops captured the 2025 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament Title on Saturday, May 3, with a 13-10 victory over the Denison Big Red. The championship is the third for the Batting Bishops, and first since they collected the tournament title in 2015. As conference champions, Ohio Wesleyan has earned the league's automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament. The NCAA Division III selection show will be held at 9:00 p.m. tomorrow night, Sunday, May 4, on NCAA.com.
#1 OHIO WESLEYAN (15-3) 13, #2 DENISON (13-6) 10
- Ohio Wesleyan was the first to score thanks to senior Brady Hunt (Maineville, OH/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy), who gave the Bishops the 1-0 lead just 3:23 into the game. Denison answered with a goal just 1:24 later as senior Tommy Quinson (Rye Brook, NY/Brunswick School) evened the score at one-all. Quinson would net his second goal of the game with 7:49 remaining, while Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Henry Ross (Snoqualmie, WA/Mount Si) tied the game at 2-2 just 25 seconds later. Big Red sophomore Brady Monturio (Medfield, MA/Medfield) and junior Macky Peck (Naples, FL/Western Reserve Academy) each netted a goal to give Denison a two-goal lead heading into the second quarter.
- Ohio Wesleyan senior Carson Geier (Milford, OH/Milford) opened the second quarter with a goal to cut the deficit to 4-3 for the Bishops. Denison first-year Jack Moellering (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) responded with a goal a minute-and-a-half later to put the Big Red up 5-3. Four minutes later, Dension would add to their lead with three more unanswered goals by sophomore Liam Gillard (Minneapolis, MN/Totino-Grace), first-year Jacob Campen (Jacksonville, FL/The Bolles School) and senior Collin Murphy (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) to push the advantage to 8-3 with 7:06 remaining in the first half. Forty seconds later, OWU’s Hunt found the back of the net to cut the deficit to four, 8-4. Denison’s Peck netted another goal for the 9-4 lead, before Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Wade Beckstrom (Devon, PA/Conestoga) recorded a goal, moving the score to 9-5 at the half.
- OWU came out of the lockerroom motivated, netting three unanswered goals thanks to senior Will Siegenthaler (Elmhurst, IL/York) scoring back-to-back goals and Ross netting his second goal of the game to knot the game at 9-9 heading into the final frame.
- Forty-eight seconds into the fourth quarter, junior Garrett Smith (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) gave OWU the 10-9 edge. Beckstrom would move the Bishops’ lead to two scores with his second goal of the game with 10:03 remaining. Just over a minute later, Ohio Wesleyan senior Joey Wiseman (Powel, OH/Olentangy Liberty) scored his first goal of the game for the three-goal lead, 12-9. Denison answered with its first goal of the half off the stick of Quinson to bring the Big Red within two, 12-10. Ross netted the final goal of the game to secure the 13-10 victory.
- Ross and Hunt lead OWU with three goals apiece, while Denison’s Quinson tied for the game-high with three goals and Big Red junior Kevin Berutich (Fishers, IN/Cathedral) dished a game-high three assists.
- OWU outshot Denison, 48-28, however the Big Red held the edge in saves, 14-8. The Bishops scooped up more ground balls, 30-22. The two teams were almost even in faceoff wins, as OWU won 14 and Denison collected 13 wins at the x.
- Ohio Wesleyan senior goalkeeper Nathan George (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) was named Tournament MVP after making eight saves in the tournament finale. He was joined on the All-Tournament team by teammates Hunt, Ross, Silver and junior Noah Citek (Long Beach, CASt. John Bosco).
