Denison Baseball Concludes Season in Eastlake 6/1/2025 11:59:00 AM | By: Haiden Diemer-McKinney, Wabash '26 Share: EASTLAKE, OH - Second-seeded Denison (41-7) suffered an 11-4 loss to third-seeded Wisconsin-Whitewater (46-6) in game 8 before falling 6-1 to seventh-seeded Rowan (38-11) in game 10 on day three of the 2025 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. The Big Red conclude their historic 2025 season with a 41-7 overall record and both the NCAC conference and tourney titles. This season, Denison also clinched the program’s second NCAA Baseball regional title, first super regional title and first appearance in the NCAA Division III World Series. Game 8: No. 3 UW-Whitewater 11, No. 2 Denison 4 UW-Whitewater got out to a commanding 5-0 lead just three innings into the game before Denison first-year Eron Vega (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) smashed a solo home run over the left field fence to get the Big Red on the board in the bottom of the third. This was the rookie's first homer of his collegiate career, as well as the Big Red’s sixth consecutive game tallying a home run. The Big Red allowed two more Warhawk runs in the fourth before junior Cade Nowik (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) launched a solo home run of his own to right field to shrink the Warhawks lead to five, 7-2, in the fifth inning. Whitewater added three more runs to the board, before Vega lined a single through the right side to score Max Fishbein (Atlanta, GA/Druid Hills) in the seventh and cut the deficit to 11-3. Trying to rally, Denison added another run in the bottom of the ninth, as sophomore Jack Lutte (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) scored from a base hit to center field by senior Eric Colaco (Richfield, OH/Revere). However, the Big Red’s late efforts came up short. Sundgren and Vega each posted 2-for-3 efforts in the loss, while sophomore Peter Lemke (Geneva, IL/St. Francis) took the loss on the mound for Denison, scattering 10 hits across 5.1 innings of work. Game 10: No. 7 Rowan 6, No. 2 Denison 1 After Rowan struck first with an unearned run in the second frame, Denison evened the score in the bottom of the third. Junior Eric Sundgren (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) flew out to left field for the RBI as junior Alex Vasquez (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) was able to score the Big Red’s only run of the game. The Profs would amass four runs in between the fourth and sixth frames, giving Denison limited time to respond, while another Rowan run at the top of the ninth sealed the deal and eliminated the Big Red from the tournament. Lutte led Denison with a 2-for-4 performance, while sophomore Sam Larson (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) took the loss on the hill, throwing 4.1 innings, scattering seven hits, and producing three strikeouts.
