CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN —
Nate Webber has been named interim head coach of the Wabash College lacrosse team, as announced by interim director of athletics
Jake Martin. Webber replaces former head coach
Chris Burke, who is departing to accept a coaching position at Hampton University.
"Coach Webber has shown strong leadership, a steady presence, and a real commitment to this program and to each of our student-athletes," Martin said. "He knows what Wabash lacrosse represents and will continue to move the program forward with consistency and purpose."
Webber joined the Wabash coaching staff in 2023 and served as assistant coach for two seasons, working closely with Burke to help guide the Little Giants through a period of growth and on-field success. Wabash tied its program record for wins with an 8-8 record in 2025 after posting an 8-8 mark in 2024 with Webber on the coaching staff. The Little Giants earned wins over Hiram and claimed a first-ever victory over Wittenberg in North Coast Athletic Conference competition last season.
Webber worked primarily with the team's goalies and defense the past two seasons. The Little Giants ranked fourth among NCAC schools in scoring defense, limiting opponents to an average of 9.94 goals per game. Wabash finished third in the conference in saves per game (11.38) and ranked fourth in caused turnovers per game (9.13). The team also ranked among the top 85 NCAA Division III programs in man-down defense with a .774 success rate, the third-best mark in the NCAC.
Webber graduated from the University of Indianapolis in 2020 with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science, pre-physical Therapy. He earned a master of science degree in exercise science, human performance in 2021. Webber played four seasons for the Greyhounds' men's lacrosse team, serving as team captain for the 2020-21 season. He was a four-time Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) All-Academic Team selection. He played on the Greyhounds' 2019 NCAA Division II national finalist team and was part of two NCAA tournament-qualifying squads. The Greyhounds won three GLVC tournament titles during Webber's time and reached a No. 4 ranking in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II poll. The team appeared in 35 consecutive USILA Division II national polls during his playing career.
Webber came to Wabash from DePauw University, where he helped the Tigers to 11 total wins, including five NCAC victories, over two seasons as an assistant coach. He also spent one season as a club coach for Midwest Express Lacrosse.
"It means a lot to me that the department—Jake Martin, the rest of the coaches, and most importantly, our guys—believe in me and are giving me the opportunity to lead this program," Webber said. "It's really a blessing to continue the tradition and build upon the foundation that Coach Burke created here. I don't plan on making big changes, but I'm excited to put my own flavor on things as a first-time head coach. I'm incredibly grateful for the chance to lead Wabash lacrosse."
Webber begins his duties immediately.
