Ohio Wesleyan Set for NCAA Tournament Opener Against Grove City

After capturing the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Men's Lacrosse Tournament title on May 2, Ohio Wesleyan (11-6) earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament which begins this week. The Battling Bishops will open first-round play hosting Grove City on Wednesday, May 6, at 4:00 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.

Ohio Wesleyan earned the league’s automatic bid after a strong postseason run as the No. 2 seed in the NCAC tournament, knocking off Denison, 14-12, in the semifinals before collecting a 12-4 victory over Oberlin in the title game. Now making their 31st appearance in the NCAA Tournament, OWU brings a wealth of postseason experience, owning 22 all-time tournament wins and four national runner-up finishes.

Grove City qualified for the NCAA Division III postseason tournament by winning the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Tournament with decisive wins over Westminster (18-0) and Chatham (17-6), capping a perfect 9-0 run through conference play. Grove City is making its seventh-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and holds a 2-6 record on the national stage.

The two programs have split their brief all-time series, with Grove City earning a 10-8 win in 2024 before Ohio Wesleyan responded with an 18-12 victory last season in Delaware.

The winner of the Ohio Wesleyan and Grove City contest will advance to face second- and third-round host Lynchburg on Saturday, May 9. The regional rounds continue Sunday, May 10, with a berth into the national quarterfinals at stake. The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, while this year’s finalists will advance to Charlottesville, Virginia, for the championship game at Scott Stadium. The national championship will be played at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, and will be followed by the Division II championship at 4:00 p.m., while the Division I semifinals and championship are slated for Saturday, May 23, and Monday, May 25, at the same site.
