Kenyon Lords & Ladies Take Early Championship Lead

GRANVILLE, OH -- The Kenyon men and women lead the 2022 NCAC Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday after the first night of competition at the Trumbull Aquatics Center on the campus of Denison University. The Lords accumulated 163 total points after a first- and third-place finish in the diving well and a first-place finish in the 800 free relay, while the Ladies sit in first with 70 points thanks to a first-place finish in the 800 free relay.
Denison is second overall in the men's standings after night one with 149 points, followed by Wabash (75), Wooster (60), DePauw (58), Oberlin (56), Allegheny (54), Ohio Wesleyan (52), Wittenberg (50) and Hiram (48). On the women's side, DePauw sits in second with 62 points, followed by Wooster (60), Ohio Wesleyan (58), Oberlin (56), Hiram (54), Allegheny (0), Denison (0) and Wooster (0).
The 2022 NCAC Swimming & Diving Championships opened up on Wednesday evening with the men's and women's 800 free relay. On the men's side, the Kenyon team of junior Bryan Fitzgerald (West Bend, WI/West Bend East) and sophomores Noah Hargrove (Charlottesville, VA/Western Albermarle), Noah Althoff (Chattanooga, TN/Baylor) and Yurii Kosian (Odesa, Ukraine/Odesa School 101) touched the wall first with an NCAA "B" cut standard of 6:36.01, which was eight seconds faster than their seed time. In women's action, the Kenyon quartet of senior Crile Hart (Pepper Pike, OH/Hawken School), junior Ania Axas (Ludlow, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Acad.), sophomore Sarah Hoffman (Ludlow, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Acad.), freshman Sydney Geboy (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet) also surpassed the NCAA "B" cut standard with a winning time of 7:24.59, which was 15 seconds faster than their seed time.
In the diving well on Wednesday night, Kenyon sophomore Israel Zavaleta (Mexico City, Mexico/Universidad del Valle de Mexico) earned the league title after scoring 594.85 points. Denison senior Liam Simmons (Weston, CT/Weston) recorded a score of 480.85 for second place, while Kenyon junior Drew Albrecht (Aurora, OH/Aurora) rounded out the list of All-NCAC performers in the men's three-meter competition by finishing third overall with 471.45 points.
