Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Ashton Price, Wooster
Wooster senior
Ashton Price (Bay Village, OH/Bay) dropped a career-high 29 points in the Fighting Scots’ conference opening win (92-80) over previously unbeaten Oberlin on Saturday. In the victory, the senior hit a key three-point shot with 1:25 remaining in regulation to increase Wooster’s lead to seven points. Price went 9-for-15 from the field, shooting 60 percent, and added three assists, two rebounds, and one steal. With his 29 points, he surpassed the 1,000 collegiate points mark.
Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Camille Zinaich, Oberlin
Oberlin senior
Camile Zinaich (Boonsboro, MD/Saint Maria Goretti) led the Yeowomen to a 79-70 win over Alma on Tuesday. The senior recorded 13 points in the third quarter to help Oberlin build and maintain its lead. Zinaich led the team with 21 points, shooting 10-for-16 from the field, to go along with eight rebounds, six assists, three steals, and one block in the nine-point victory.
NCAC Milestones & Records (Nov. 25 – Dec 1)
DePauw, Football – In DePauw’s 45-20 win over Maryville (TN) in the second round of NCAA Division III Football Championship on Saturday, the Tigers broke two NCAC and program records, including program wins (11) and the NCAC single-season scoring record (573). Individually in the 25-point victory, junior wide receiver
Robby Ballentine (Crown Point, IN/Andrean), senior quarterback
Nathan McCahill (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral), and sophomore kicker
Matthew Berry (Jacksonville, FL/Bolles School) each posted record breaking outings. Ballentine scored two touchdowns to bring his season total to 19 which broke the NCAC record (17) and extended his program-record mark. The junior also broke DePauw’s single-season scoring record of 102 points as he now owns 114 so far this season. McCahill threw two touchdown passes, moving his career total to 86 to break the DePauw career mark set by
Matt Hunt (2013-16; 85). The senior is also just four yards shy of breaking
Michael Engle’s single-season passing yards program record of 3,180, which was set in 2010. Berry scored nine points in the win over Maryville (TN) to move his season total to 93, the most by a DePauw kicker in program history. Additionally, the sophomore knocked down six PATs to bring his total to 69 extra-points made this season, which breaks the previous NCAC record (66) set by
Richie McNally of Wooster in 2004 … The victory was DePauw's 13th straight at Blackstock Stadium which is the fourth-longest active streak in Division III … The Tigers 45 points marked the ninth straight and 10th time this season the Tigers have scored at least 42.
Oberlin, Men’s Basketball – Junior
Zach Smith (River Forest, IL/University of Chicago Laboratory Schools) poured in a career-best 27 points after connecting on 10-of-14 shots from the field, including 7-of-11 from beyond the arch. Smith’s seven three-pointers tied an Oberlin program record for most in a single game, a mark last accomplished in 2005.
Ohio Wesleyan, Women’s Basketball – Fifth-year
Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) recorded her 11th career game with double-digit assist after dishing out 10 helpers in the Battling Bishops’ 65-52 win over Ohio Northern on Tuesday. Homan currently leads the NCAC and ranks second in NCAA Division III in assists per game (7.0) while she also leads the NCAC and is tied for 12th nationally with 3.5 assists per turnover ratio.
Wabash, Men’s Basketball – Junior
Josh Whack (Indianapolis, IN/Carmel) scored a career-high 26 points to lead Wabash to a 77-64 victory in the Little Giants’ conference opener against Hiram on Saturday.
Wooster, Men’s Basketball – The Fighting Scots checked in at No. 16 in last week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll for the program's record 250th time being ranked by the website.
