Kenyon, Wittenberg Men’s Golf Opens Play at NCAA Championship

PENFIELD, NY– Kenyon and Wittenberg opened play on Tuesday at the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, New York. The Owls sit in a three-way tie for fifth out of 43 teams after shooting an opening round of 297(+9) while the Tigers sit in a two-way tie for 20th after posting a score of 305 (+17).
 
The national championship is being held on two courses, the par-72 6,558-yard course at the Midvale Country Club and the par-72 6,770-yard course at the Cobblestone Creek Country Club. Both NCAC teams opened play at the Midvale CC.
 
Illinois Wesleyan leads day one after shooting a 290 (+2), while John Carroll and Carleton sit in a tie for second at 294 (+6). Aurora follows in fourth with a 295 (+7) and Trinity (TX) and Huntingdon are tied with Kenyon (297, +9) to round out the top seven teams after the opening round of play.
 
Kenyon’s Jonathan Oakes (Dobbs Ferry, NY/US Performance Academy) led the Owls and all NCAC participants after shooting an even 72 in the opening round and sits in a tie for 10th out of 225 golfers. Oliver McGovern (Greenwich, CT/Fordham Prep) sits in a tie for 31st with a 74 (+2), while Jaiden Koonar (Alberta, Canada/Webber Academy) is tied for 53rd with a 75 (+3), Adrian Jordan (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville School) is tied for 75th with a 76 (+4) and Armand Ouellette (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) is tied for 152nd with an 80 (+8).
 
Wittenberg was led by Mitch Bolte (Newark, OH/Newark), who is tied 17th after shooting a 73 (+1), while Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) and Jacob Yarbrough (Dublin, OH/Jerome) both carded a 76 (+4) to sit in a tie for 75th. Mark Sulek (Delaware, OH/Hayes) is tied for 152nd with an 80 (+8) and Josh Wright (Wadsworth, OH/Akron Hoban) is in 224th with a 91 (+19).
 
Round two was changed to a shotgun start with Kenyon and Wittenberg both competing on the par-72 6,770-yard course at the Cobblestone Creek Country Club, starting at 8:05 a.m.
 
The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play or the conclusion of the last fully completed round. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total score.
