Six North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) football student-athletes were nominated for the 2025 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team®, unveiled on Tuesday, July 15. Among the honorees were Denison senior center Canyon Schneider (West Jefferson, OH/West Jefferson), John Carroll senior kicker Owen Schuckert (Brooklyn Heights, OH/Cuyahoga Heights), Oberlin junior defensive back Massimo Vliet (Little Compton, RI / Moses Brown), Ohio Wesleyan senior wide receiver Josh Hurst (Port Clinton, OH/Port Clinton), Wittenberg graduate linebacker Mario Getaw (Washington, MI/Eisenhower), and Wooster junior defensive lineman Donovon Jackson (Solon, OH/Solon).

Schneider, a rising senior for Denison, earned third-team All-NCAC honors during the 2024 season and has been recognized on the CSC Academic All-District team twice. Over the past two summers, Schneider has volunteered in the emergency room at Licking County Hospital, assisting over 225 patients. In addition, he has served in the OhioHealth family medicine office in Upper Arlington, Ohio across three summers, contributing to more than 300 patient visits. On campus, Schneider is the chapter president of Denison’s Mission34, a nonprofit that works to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health. In his role, he leads biweekly meetings aimed at equipping students with tools to care for their own mental health and to support those around them. During the academic year, Schneider also serves as a head coach for the West Jefferson Golden Gloves Baseball program, having spent the past four summers organizing practices, games, and communication for the 11 and under and 14 and under teams. He has also put community service activities together for Cypress Church in his hometown of West Jefferson, Ohio.

Schuckert, John Carroll’s standout kicker, collected first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honors in 2024, while being recognized as the OAC Special Teams Player of the Year. The rising senior also garnered CSC Academic All-District accolades in 2024 for his excellence in the classroom. Outside of football, Schuckert has dedicated his time to several organizations supporting developmentally disabled youth and adults. His contributions include work with Jesuit Day of Service, Sparks Specialized Services, Night to Shine, Labre, More Than Food, Kohl’s Kicking Camps, and the Men’s Service Club of Brooklyn Heights, among others.

Oberlin’s Vliet registered four tackles on defense and special teams last fall. While primarily listed as a defensive back, the rising junior made his mark as a receiver in 2023, hauling in 16 catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Off the field, Vliet locally volunteers with Oberlin Community Services (OCS), helping improve food access in low-income areas by restocking shelves and packaging food boxes for delivery. In addition to his in-person service, he’s also a digital content creator for the Providence Animal Rescue League (PARL) and Healing Companions. For PARL, he highlights adoptable animals and promotes community programming through photo and video content. Through his work with Healing Companions, Vliet helps embody the organization's goal of sharing the therapeutic impact of psychiatric service dogs via social media, and how they aid individuals living with mental illness.

Ohio Wesleyan’s Hurst earns a nomination to the AFCA Allstate Good Works Team for the second-consecutive year. The rising senior is a two-time second-team All-NCAC wide receiver and was the 2022 NCAC Newcomer of the Year following a standout rookie campaign. Beyond the gridiron, Hurst has volunteered with the 2nd & 7 literacy program and organized a local youth and high school skills camp in his hometown of Port Clinton, Ohio.

Getaw, a 2024 team captain who anchored Wittenberg’s defense, started all 10 games at linebacker and tallied 16 solo tackles last season. Off the field, he worked alongside the team’s coaching staff to organize a special event for Developmental Disabilities of Clark County during preseason camp. The event gave local residents a memorable opportunity to suit up in Wittenberg gear and participate in low-impact football drills.

In 2024, Jackson recorded 15 tackles and a sack on Wooster’s D-line in nine games, which included two starts. In the community, he serves as a volunteer with the YMCA’s before and after-school program at Parkview Elementary in Wooster, assisting children with homework and planning engaging activities. Jackson also dedicated his time as a group leader for Saint Augustine’s Rainbow Camp, where he helped facilitate programming for campers.

The AFCA announced a record-breaking 197 total nominees across all divisions. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team honors college football players at all levels of the sport for their selfless acts of giving back to the community and off-the-field achievements. The 2025 Good Works Team will comprise 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III, and the NAIA, and an honorary head coach. The final roster of 23 award recipients will be unveiled in September.
