OWU’s Smith, JCU’s Alramahi Highlight Day Two of NCAA Indoor T&F Championships

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Fifteen North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) student-athletes competed on Saturday, March 14, at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
Ohio Wesleyan junior Connor Smith (Marysville, OH/Marysville) highlighted the day as he claimed the national title in the men's high jump, clearing 2.12 meters on his first attempt at that height to edge out the runner-up.
 
Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Katherine Dortmund (Westerville, OH/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) earned first-team All-American honors after placing third in the finals of the women's 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.55, while Wittenberg sophomore Kory Davis (Brookville, OH/Brookville) finished sixth in the men's 60-meter hurdles, clocking an 8.18 to also earn first-team All-America accolades.
 
John Carroll sophomore Dakota Houston (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) placed seventh in the women's 60-meter dash and fourth in the women's 200-meter dash, clocking times of 7.65 and 24.23, respectively, to earn two first-team All-America citations on day two of the national championship.
 
In the men's triple jump, Oberlin senior Namu Makatiani (Nairobi, Kenya/George School (PA)) earned first-team All-American honors after placing eighth with a leap of 14.82 meters. Wabash senior Sly Williams (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) also competed in the triple jump, finishing 19th with a mark of 13.66 meters.
 
In the men's shot put, Wabash senior Quinn Sholar (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) finished 13th with a toss of 16.29 meters, earning second-team All-American honors.
 
John Carroll sophomore Sam Su (Akron, OH/Woodridge) placed fifth in the men's one-mile run with a time of 4:15.28 to earn a first-team All-America certificate.
 
A trio of NCAC student-athletes earned first-team All-America honors in the men's 400-meter dash, led by Wittenberg senior Cameron Elliott (Springfield, OH/Springfield), who placed third with a time of 47.52, followed by John Carroll graduate student Tyler Gast (Olmsted Township, OH/Olmsted Falls) in fifth at 47.82 and Wabash first-year Brock DeBello (North Salem, IN/Tri West) in sixth at 47.87.
 
In the men's 800-meter run, John Carroll senior Basheer Alramahi (Westlake, OH/Westlake) placed fourth with a time of 1:51.19 to earn first-team All-America honors. Alramahi then added a second first-team citation later in the evening, joining graduate student Tyler Gast (Olmsted Township, OH/Olmsted Falls), junior Tony Tirado (Chicago, IL/St. Ignatius College Prep) and senior Dustin Horner (Stow, OH/Stow) to finish seventh in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:15.25.
 
Alramahi also received the NCAA Elite 90 Award on Saturday afternoon, becoming the first student-athlete in Division III track & field history to win the award in back-to-back years. The Biology major carries a 4.00 GPA, which earned him the honor presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing at an NCAA Championship finals site. With his first Elite 90 Award at last year's indoor championships, Alramahi joined Laura O'Malley, who won in 2018-19, as the only Blue Streak student-athletes to claim the accolade.

In total, NCAC student-athletes secured 20 All-American citations at the 2026 Division III Championships. In addition to the 16 honors on Saturday, four second-team All-American citations were earned on Friday. DePauw junior Liberty Scott (Galveston, IN/Lewis Cass) collected second-team All-American honors in 11th with a time of 8.74 in the women's 60-meter hurdle prelims, while DePauw sophomore Jacob Sandlin (San Pierre, IN/Kankakee Valley) claimed second-team All-America accolades with a 10th place finish in 8.10 in the men's 60 hurdles. DePauw junior Shelby Stall (Lindenhurst, IL/Lakes) recorded a time of 56.61 for 15th in the women's 400-meter dash prelims to earn second-team All-American honors. Wittenberg sophomore Jack Kittle (Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin Falls) crossed the line in 48.24 to claim 12th and earn a second-team All-American citation in the men's 400-meter dash.
