John Carroll Leads NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

GAMBIER, OH – John Carroll sits atop both the men's and women’s standings at the 2026 NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships after the first day of competition at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
 
The Blue Streak’s captured 47 total points in the men’s standings after posting seven top-five finishes, including runner-up finishes in both the long jump and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The JCU women earned the top spot after the first day with 54 total points thanks to seven top-five finishes, including wins in the 10,000-meter run, long jump and javelin.
 
Kenyon sits in second in the men's standing with 37 points, followed by Wittenberg (30), Ohio Wesleyan and Wabash (29), Denison (24), DePauw (18), Oberlin (15) and Wooster (5). On the women's side, DePauw sits in second after the first day with 46 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (41), Wittenberg (33), Denison (32), Oberlin (25), Wooster (3) and Kenyon (0). Point totals include last weekend's combined events.
 
The championships began with the women’s 10,000-meter run, as John Carroll senior Abby Schroff (Lewis Center, OH/Olentangy Orange) won the 2026 title in a time of 38:09.39, while the men's event was won by Wittenberg junior Lukas Rieben (Clayton, OH/Northmont) in a time of 32:14.95.
 
Six field events were then contested, as John Carroll’s Dakota Johnson (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) earned the women’s long jump with a distance of 18’ 05.00”, while the men’s title went to Ohio Wesleyan’s Ryan Tripp (Sunbury, OH/Big Walnut) with a mark of 22’ 11.25”. Wabash’s Quinn Sholar (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) collected the top spot in the men's discus with a throw of 169’ 10.00”, while the women’s title went to Denison Sydney Flores (Durango, CO/Durango) with a heave of 127’ 11.00”. John Carroll’s Leah Fritsch (Pittsburgh, PA/Ambridge Area) claimed the women's javelin throw title with a toss of 126’ 03.00”, while Ohio Wesleyan’s Dominic Brown (Marysville, OH/Marysville) earned the men’s victory with a throw of 169’ 03.00”.
 
Day one ended on the track with DePauw’s Morgan Tharp (McCordsville, IN/Mt. Vernon) earning the victory in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:07.46, while the men's event title was earned by Kenyon’s Owen Rodstrom (Cleveland, OH/St. Ignatius), who timed in at 9:18.48.
 
The 2026 NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will continue tomorrow, Saturday, May 2, with 28 events beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the women's triple jump and shot put as well as the men's high jump and hammer. The men’s pole vault will be contested at 10:30 a.m. The women's high jump and men’s triple jump will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by the men’s shot put and women’s hammer at 12:45 p.m. and the women’s pole vault at 1:30 p.m. Track events will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100 meter relay.
